Thanks, everyone. We ended up planning a trip to Shelter Island/Montauk because we found a place to stay via friends out there. There really should be more beach resorts on the east coast!

@raintreebee: I highly recommend Bethany Beach in Del. Very close to Ocean City but smaller and has a great little Boardwalk. We were in OC last week and no one was there it was perfect. We stayed around 79th street which was a great location for us with an 18 month old. The beach was empty since there aren't a lot of high rises in that area. They opened a new restaurant across the street called Ropewalk that has a nice outdoor playground and live music - it was perfect for kids and adults! You should be able to get a weekend condo rental for reasonable price at this point in the season.

Oh and wondersitter is a great service that lots of friends have used to get sitters at the beach!

@raintreebee: $900/night?!?!? That's insane. I thought it would be pricey, but was thinking more like $400/night. Yowza.

@oliviaoblivia: @hellobeeboston: definitely looks amazing and is my first choice. Thanks! Unfortunately it's $900 a night, and I'm not sure I could justify that!
@skipra: thank you! Will check it out!

The Hyatt on Goat Island (Newport) is not on the beach but directly on the water and absolutely gorgeous.

@oliviaoblivia: I was going to say this. I'm pretty sure they have babysitting. I was at an event there July and they had babysitting set up for it!

@MrsKRB: Thanks, I stayed at Water's Edge once and liked it. I'll check out Madison Beach.

@Truth Bombs: Thanks! I am starting to get that picture. A friend recommended Cape May, but the hotels are jammed next week.

@raintreebee: Most people rent houses on the Jersey Shore as opposed to staying in a hotel. There are some motels and bed and breakfast type places. But I'm not aware of anything that's like a "resort" that would have organized babysiting services.

Waters Edge and Madison beach hotel are both really nice options in CT, but they're not super kid friendly. There aren't a ton of options here in CT. As far as NJ, I haven't stayed in any resorts but anywhere in the Jersey Shore area (point please t, LBI) should be fun and kid friendly.

We just decided to take a last minute beach trip next week. Anyone know of any nice-ish beach resorts in NJ, CT, RI, or MD that are good for kids (and adults)? Basically within a few hours drive from NYC? Preferably one with childcare or near a town with decent babysitting options?
