I might get that mesh one! Currently I just have a huge plastic one from Target. Looks cute, is water proof...

We are going to the beach next week and I use a large plastic-y reusable grocery store bag. I like that I can just rinse it out at the end of the day and don't have to worry about it. I like the idea of those mesh ones though. It would make dealing with sand even easier!

@Mrs. High Heels: I don't think the bag itself is THAT heavy, though it does seem to be made out of a heavier-duty material. Definitely don't have to worry about it breaking, I don't think! Loaded up with beach towels and sun screen and toys and some snacks though... it definitely was biting into my shoulder and was a pain to carry long distances. I'm actually in the process of trying to find some sort of beach back pack to use instead... I think distributing the weight across both shoulders would help. BUT if you're not going to do a ton of walking with it, it IS a great bag. I LOVE how much stuff it fits and all the different pockets!

@Mrs. High Heels: Depends how else much you're trying to carry. I typically have 3-4 water bottles, a lunch bag of snacks, a coverups & undies for my + 3 kids, a small bag with diapers and wipes, a wet bag with goggles/swimsuits, a large mesh bag of pool toys, my wallet, my phone, and my keys. I think there'd be room for rolled towels poking out the top, but it depends how large/bulky they are. (We don't carry our own towels, the pool provides them). I've been very happy with my bag so far - I can cram a LOT into it without really cramming.

I know you didn't ask, so ignore me if I'm being bossy - but I'd highly recommend kid-sized towels (my daughter got a PBK hooded towel as a gift, but any kid bath towel would work) for the kids or turkish towels (super thin and light) for everyone to cut down on bulk and weight.

@Mrs. High Heels: I have a Lands End XL bag and love it. I personally don't think it's heavy by itself and it fits a TON of stuff which is what I wanted it for. I did get it with the extra long handles so it's easier to carry. However, like @Adira: mentioned, if you aren't wearing sleeves, it can cut into your shoulder if it's loaded down.

Scout bags are awesome, too, like @pinkelephant: recommended. They're very lightweight.

@Adira: Ah I did see some reviews about the shoulder straps. Some reviewers also said the bag was heavy. Is that the case for you? I saw that there was a lighter mesh and regular mesh version though.

@looch: I'm planning to! We just bought a wagon this year from Costco to lug gear to DS's T-Ball games, and plan to use it for the beach this summer. It's this one - https://www.costco.com/Mac-Sports-Folding-Utility-Wagon-Green.product.100371844.html

@mediagirl: Ooo that looks very similar to what I'm using to lug our pool stuff now. I'm using Envirosax reusable grocery bags and I love it for so many things.

@Mamaof2: @misolee: I've never heard of this brand. I'll look into it, thanks!

@PinkElephant: These are cute! Is it big enough to hold 4 towels and other things?

Does anyone bring a beach cart when they go to the beach? I am seriously considering one for a possible shore vacation this summer because I really can't manage a big bag and our chairs and gear.

I like the big baggu bag by Baggu. It's surprisingly ginormous but you can't tell by looking at it. Also love the standard baggu for everyday stuff.

I have the xl lands end bag and it's too big/heavy for the beach. I asked for it one year for Christmas and never use it...

If you haven’t already bought, I have a scout bag and really like it. I have a style with only one extra internal picket, but that’s not an issue because I use other smaller bag (wet bags, mesh bags, etc) to group other small items together. It’s very light and waterproof!

@Foodnerd81: @Mrs. High Heels: I have that one. It's really big and roomy and fits everything. It's perfect, assuming you don't have to carry it very far! It doesn't have very comfortable straps if you're carrying it on your shoulder, although that's mitigated if you're wearing something so that it doesn't rub against your skin.

My friend has this one and raves about it. She says she can have three towels, swim toys, snacks, lotions, change of clothes, all organized into the many pockets. I’m intrigued but so far use giant tote bags or reusable grocery bags, cause I’m fancy. (For the pool, not the beach, so sand isn’t an issue for her)

We have a mesh bag with handles that I love for the beach - it’s great because you can throw beach toys in it and the sand just sifts out. I have a regular sized Land’s End bag and I find it heavy.

i think i have the xl with long handle. I asked for it for a gift and it’s giant ... so I never actually take it anywhere, just store stuff in it. I have a tote from target’s summer aisle I use for the pool. It’s one of those rectangular ones, where the bottom is sturdy and the sides collapse. I can fit 4 towels (rolled), waters and small stuff in it. Not huge but cheap and easy!

@Charm54: I love the idea of croc-like material and not worrying about getting it wet or stained. I'm looking for something a little less structured, but that's a really cool looking bag!

I LOVE my Bogg Bag I got last year. It is massive, yet still fairly lightweight. It stands up and doesn’t tip over. It’s made out of croc-like material so I don’t care if it gets wet. It has holes on the side so if it gets full of sand I just brush it out. It has ziplock pouches on the side too for smaller items or things you want to protect. It’s seriously the best. Also I’m jealous of your warm weather! We still have at least 8 feet of snow on the ground 😩

Does anyone have the Lands End tote? I'm looking for a beach bag that can fit 4 beach towels comfortably along with other things if needed (goggles, flip flops, etc.). I'm thinking about the XL size, but am wondering if that's overkill. Is this bag heavy on it's own? Also, is the longer or shorter handle better?

If you have any other recommendations on a good beach/pool tote that can carry a bunch of stuff I'm all for it! It's 90+ degrees here today so summer is on my mind.

Edit: Also eyeing this Patagonia one - https://www.backcountry.com/patagonia-lightweight-black-hole-gear-28l-tote-1709cu-in?
