I have heard that some children skip crawling.

There are several words that my son said several times for a day or so, and then he stopped saying them and re-learned a couple of months later. I also recently saw a FB comment from a friend who said that her daughter learned the alphabet relatively early but then later forgot parts of it and had to re-learn when it was more age-appropriate.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Walking, not crawling, seems like your kid is just doing it right! I'd be thrilled if my child skipped crawling! Is there something wrong with that?

I read something once that really helped me with this part of parenting. Think about all the things your child is exposed to every day and how many of those experiences are new to them. Every day they are learning new things and mastering new skills. So sometimes, they master a skill and then "forget" about it for awhile because the next day or week they are working on learning something else! So don't worry if your child has "forgotten" something they used to do because they are using their muscles and brain power to learn the next thing that will amaze you!

@Tanjowen: haha my LO always forgets she can roll front to back when she is pissed and tired of tummy time. She then loses the skill that would make her happier! Obviously needs mama to roll her then...

My LO rolled one time from stomach to back, and then never again. He bonked his head the first try and decided he hated the idea. He did roll just fine from back to stomach and I figured as long as he mastered one way of rolling it as fine.

He was also big on doing things one time and then promptly "forgetting." Nothing like feeling like an idiot trying to show off their skills and they just stare at you. :silly: Your LO sounds like they are doing great!

I always joke that my LO has a checklist and once he does something he's like "check! now on to the next goal!" Like two weeks ago he signed "more" multiple times at dinner and hasn't done it again since! We are trying our best to encourage crawling but he hates being in that position and prefers scooting on his bottom or walking. I still try to encourage him, but I don't force it. It's normal to worry, but I try to focus on all the things he can do and figure he will do the rest when he is ready.

Our daughter did the same thing. Sat up at 5 months and didn't roll over until about 9 months. You don't need to worry at all, your LO will do it and then she will do it all the time. Ours also always use to just try to sit up(like doing baby crunches) instead of rolling over, which to me showed she knew she wanted to get up or go a different way!

One time for everything counts. But I would definitely work on crawling and not walking right now. It really helps with coordination is babies crawl first. She still in the normal range for the things you've mentioned...

Okay, so I know this may be FTM paranoia, but it's been eating at me.
My 8mo refused to roll for the longest time. She finally rolled tummy to back like three times at 6 months, and never has again. She rolls tummy to back constantly and no matter how long we leave her she won't correct herself.
She started sitting at 5 months, and almost immediately showed an interest in walking. If we hold her hands she will walk (usually run) around the house. It's to the point where if we don't help her walk around she gets insanely fussy and upset. Not even a remote interest in crawling. She'll hold herself up in the crawling position but just freak out until we pick her up.

She also learned how to high five for a week a month ago, and now doesn't seem to know what I'm even asking of her when I try.

Basically I'm trying to figure out worried I should be. Sorry this is long.
