That is an interesting article but for me not going on bed rest wasn't an option. My water broke at 31 weeks and because of bed rest in the hospital, I was able to keep my daughter in for an additional and crucial two weeks. :)

I think that's a really hard theory to test, since you don't want to put a baby in danger, know what imean?

I find it hard to believe that it out right says bed rest doesn't help hypertension when, like @rachiecakes: , the only time my blood pressure would drop below stroke risk level (I didn't have pre-e just gestational hypertension) was when I would lay on my left side

Bed rest for me was better than the alternative - csection.

I had PIH/Preeclampsia at the end and after a night stay at the hospital (37 weeks) they found that it improved when I was resting on my left side. I was asked to go home and take it easy for a few more weeks. They didn't want to induce immediately if they could help it.
A nurse mentioned to me that it any other hospital she had worked in, I would've had a csection that day with my low platelets and high blood pressure.
I would've loved to have been able to get up and around at the end because moving felt so good. I hated resting at home.

Interesting and really well researched (Cochrane review and all). I still think it is supposed to be prescribed for certain conditions such as uterine rupture.

I know personally, I was somewhat relieved to be put on restriction as a stressful work environment wasn't helping me and it was the only way to get me out of work.

I think this is really tough to say because each situation is so individual it's tough to say what would happen to THAT person if they had a different approach. I had preterm contractions at 26 weeks. My doctor was fine with me continuing to work because I sit at a desk and my cervix was still long and closed. But she really wanted me to stay off my feet and resting anytime I wasn't at work. I followed her rules very closely and my LO came at 40+1. So in my case it seems to have worked.

SO many people are prescribed bed rest! Is that a huge mistake?
