Ack that is awful!!! If it were me I would just throw away the suitcases. Since they can't be washed or dried it seems too risky to have them around. Sorry you're dealing w this and hope you guys don't have any bites!!!

Yikes, bed bugs are the worst! For the suitcases, you can probably take a hot hair dryer and hold it over every inch of it, though that may be a little labor intensive.

@Arden: ugh, I had bedbugs about 10 years ago when living in the city. It was awful.

Wash/dry everything on hot. Either pitch the suitcases or put them in plastic, duct tape it shut, and bake it in the sun. Otherwise it takes them about a year to starve, so just bagging the suitcases won't fix the problem.

@Arden: I'm so sorry you're going through this! Their attitude really doesn't help at all. It's a good sign though that you don't see any bites!

@spaniellove: they said they didn't have bugs, even though we brought them one and showed it to them. We just left and drove like 40 miles to find another hotel with vacancy.

Oh no! That's awful that the 1st hotel wouldn't give you a refund. Did they acknowlege it at all? Do you think they would dry clean your clothes or wash them in hot water? We got bitten by bedbugs while traveling and had the hotel dry clean everything while we switched rooms.

Ugh, how terrible! I don't have any advice, but I can't believe the hotel manager wouldn't even refund you! Thank goodness for being able to dispute charges through your credit card. That is just ridiculous!

@dagret: Good point. I meant, warn them after you check out! If there is going to be a problem the damage is done now, so no point in getting booted out! But I'd still let them know before they put someone else in the room and the problem continues.

Do what @ladybee suggested and put your luggage in trash bags in the garage. And wash and dry all of your clothes immediately.

I wouldn't warn the 2nd hotel bc they could boot you out for it, and you don't know for sure if you brought any with you.

ETA: we found bedbugs in our room at a hotel once but our 2nd room didn't have any. DH used to sell pest control so he inspects all of our rooms before we unpack.

That's awful. Like my worst nightmare almost! I don't know exactly what you are supposed to do but do not bring anything into you house until you are totally 100% sure it doesnt have bugs. I might throw out the suitcases entirely tbh.

And I hate to say it but you should warn your second hotel since there is a chance you brought them with you and that's how they spread so fast.

@Arden: when you get home put everything you can't put in the dryer in trash bags and tie them tight? Do you have a garage? I'd do that there. Make sure everything you can dry you do on high for hours. A kid in my class had them and that's what I was told to do with my coat every day and other things like book bag, purse, shoes. Good luck! I'd be pissed.

Well it's morning and we don't have any visable bites. I'm still worried about our luggage - I can put all our clothes in the dryer to kill the bugs, but what about the suitcases themselves?

The manager of the hotel was a jerk about it and wouldn't even refund us, so we're disputing the charge through our bank and I've already left some reviews about it. Ick.

Ohhh my gosh! I am so sorry! I'm itching for you. I hope baby is okay, but I have no advice. I'll do some googling!

ETA: is there a way to wash and dry your clothing in hot water/with hot heat? A dry cleaning service can take them but your items have to be in a plastic bag. From what I've read contain all of your items in a big plastic bag so you can see if any of them traveled with you. Do you have a store near by that you can pick up like a big ziplock storage bag?

Help! We're on a road trip to my conference, and we discovered bedbugs at our hotel after we'd been there a couple of hours. We immediately changed hotels, but I'm afraid they have gotten into our luggage and clothing. I'm so skeezed out, and since we have the baby with us I'm scared I'm going to wake up and find welts on her...
What should I do? How do you kill bedbugs if we did bring them with us? Any tips?
