@sometimesshesings: yes I think I might do that in the future. Honestly probably not until this baby is born. But hopefully before I get pregnant again I can try to learn more about my body!

@bluestriped bee: you are a trooper! Honestly bed rest is HARD. Even though many women have told me they r jealous ha... Ur right though anything for the baby/babies right? Wishing you a safe delivery and recovery at the right time!

I have no idea but I'm on hospital bed rest because my water broke early. Having been on bed rest for the last 2 weeks, I have noticed less cramps and Braxton hicks contractions. So I definitely understand and see how bed rest helps me and my condition.
I'm also Asian but I have been around the 115 lb mark for probably the last 5 years. (Oh, I'm 5'2) I have gained more after seeing an RE and was on fertility meds for my IUIs and IVF. Before getting pregnant, I was hovering around 125-130 lbs.
Anyway, if bed rest worked for you for your children, I don't see why I would change it or chance it. Though, if you wanted a dr to prescribe bed rest, that might be harder to convince them. Having been through infertility, I know I've done pretty much anything and everything to get pregnant.

@mrs.kiwi: it sounds like you and the doctors were all doing what seemed right! Fertility issues can be so tricky.

It might be interesting to get a TCM opinion, if you're concerned. In my experience, TCM diagnoses and treatments can be more nuanced, taking into consideration individual constitutions and qi patterns throughout the body (not just where symptoms are presenting.)

@sometimesshesings: thanks for that info.. Yes I wonder what kind of diagnosis would lead to those recommendations.. during my second pregnancy I was put on pelvic rest due to bleeding.. Then at the u/s baby was safe and I was taken off pelvic rest and I resumed normal activity. Couple days later mre bleeding. Got an u/s and there was no heartbeat. I definitely don't blame myself or the doctors but I do wonder what would have hPpened if I stayed on pelvic rest until the placenta formed.

My husband is an acupuncturist. He says that in Traditional Chinese Medicine, there are some old fashioned ideas about not exercising during pregnancy (especially the first trimester), not having sex during pregnancy, not bathing for a month after delivery, etc. He says most modern practitioners only make these types of recommendations if there is specific evidence (with a TCM diagnosis) that they would be warranted.

@blackbird: thanks for sharing. Yes I always rolled my eyes at the advice my mom and others would give but after two losses I was like maybe I should listen! For my miscarriages there was no found reason so I guess it was all the mOre reason to give it a try? For peace of mind alone it is worth it but idk.. I really don't want to do somethin that is so debilitating and burdens others if not necessary ..

Well, after having two miscarriages in a row, I had my blood tested and found that I have a blood clotting disorder. I also have a short luteal phase and took progesterone for both my viable pregnancies. I'm not a believer that bed rest in the first tri will make a pregnancy stick unless there's something else going on that benefits from pelvic rest (a bleed or something). The progesterone could've helped. Or there could have simply been something wrong those first two times.

My mom and aunt (both half Korean) talked to me like I was a delicate flower when I was pregnant with E. My aunt told me not to work out because I could shake the baby out of its spot in the 4th month. Which....there's no scientific basis for that.

I have always been petite and very thin. As in 5'3" and 93lbs.. I am *that* tiny Asian girl.

My first two pregnancies ended in miscarriage. people around me even before I got pregnant advised me to gain weight before having kids but honestly it is just very hard for me to gain weight and I eat really well!

We saw an RE after my second miscarriage who basically suggested I take progesterone for my next pregnancy.

Meanwhile all the older Asian ladies around me suggested bedrest for the next pregnancy.

So when I got pregnant the third time I took progesterone and I was on bedrest for the first trimester... And my son was born healthy and strong 5 days early.

After my son was born I totally went back to my 93lb self even though I was really hoping after giving birth I would be a bit heavier!

Now I am pregnant again and I took progesterone and was on a modified bed rest (as much rest as possible with a young toddler...)

I passed my 12 week mark but I was wondering- do I need to be this careful every pregnancy??? I know western doctors will say no, but Im curious to know the perspective of eastern and Asian medicine folks..

We do want a third maybe even fourth child so if you or anyone you know has gone through anything similar I would love to hear... Thanks!
