Ours are all open during the day but at night we close ours and DD's. Other than when we are sleeping they generally stay open, the only exception is our master when we have guests. We close it.. I think it's more of a privacy thing

Our door is closed to keep Lo out, unless I'm going in there. Too much for her to get into in there. Hers is open unless she is asleep because it gets really cold in her room. It definitely works best with our heating and cooling to have them open but Its just easier to lock her out sometimes.

All the doors upstairs to the bedrooms stay shut because of the cat. Her favorite trick when we had our LO was to hide under the crib and then start making a racket after we had gotten him down and headed downstairs. So we quickly shut them and trained her to stay out. Now it's just habit to keep them shut.

We kept ours open until just recently - our dogs have been really bad about tracking in dirt lately, and one of them (we can't figure out who!) has peed on our bed twice over the last couple of months. So, now we keep the doors closed unless we're in there. Ugh!

All open. We used to keep some closed but we just had a new furnace installed and they said we save money by not closing off vents because the system operates more efficiently open. So now all the doors are open. And our cats have no interest in any rooms but the master bedroom, except the room I am in

Always open. We only recently started shutting our bedroom door at night because our dog had started running downstairs at the crack of dawn to bark at the neighbor's dog, so the door stops him from doing that. Otherwise it'd be open then too.

@Synchronicity: not huge huge it's abouy 2600 square feet. It's new too and way above code for windows being efficient, etc. even though oil is a little more expensive than propane where we are, since propane burns less efficiently, we end up using more than if we had oil. We had mini splits installed this summer so we are using electricity some for heating/cooling and hoping it makes a difference. Also hoping they pipe natural gas into our area soon, though that would be several years away if it happens. We compared bills with our neighbors who all have similarly sized homes, and we all pay about the same :bummed:

My parents have oil heat and pay even more than we do; ugh, winter!!

We keep our doors open during the day. At night our door stays open so I can listen for LO and to hear if anything is happening in the house (god forbid, a break in or fire or something) and LO's door is closed almost all the way to stop sound from waking him up before we've gone to bed or when we get up for work. When guests come over I try and clean the rooms and have the doors open... Which means shoving everything in to my walk in closet and closing THAT door lol!

We leave the door to our master suite (where we and LO sleep) mostly closed to keep heating costs down. We pay about $600/month for heating and I'm not paying more to hear hallways and unused rooms! We only leave the door open enough for the cat to come and go from those rooms if she wants.

Do you keep your bedroom doors open or shut on a regular basis? What about when guests are over?

Regularly they are all open, but when people come over they get shut in a hurry because those rooms are always the last ones to get cleaned. Our one "guest room" is always a disaster because we use it to store a bunch of random crap that we don't want to deal with just yet.
