I voted for putting the queen bed in WJ's room. D sleeps in a full sized bed and he loves it. He lines up all of his stuffed animal buddies on one side and they all sleep with him. It's also nice when he's sick and wants one of us to lay down with him. Or if he gets up in the middle of the night, we can lay down next to him to comfort him.

When he sleeps over his grandparents' house he sleeps in a twin bed and he has no problems switching between the two.

I would get a twin bed with a trundle option for WJ's room. He can sleep on it twin sized, and when a guest comes to visit, use the trundle to make it a king (if that'll fit temporarily?). Then he can stay on the airbed in your room.

My parents have a daybed in their 2nd home with this kind of trundle under it that pops up - http://www.humbleabode.com/Duralink-Twin-Pull-Out-Pop-Up-Trundle-Beds#view=details&item=KB0IX-I&search=*&currIndex=0&pageSize=32&currSort=item_score&sortDirection=desc

We have an ikea daybed in our guest room that just slides out to king size - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30080316/.

@Mrs. High Heels: hehe I know... I'm the worst firstworlder ever. I think I feel bad because we have no decor in his room... which I guess makes for a good guest room!! ;)

Yay, thanks everyone! I also was worried because it would be tough to find cute kid bedding in queen size, but we have PLENTY of queen bedding to go around so I'm just going to use something plain.

I also voted for the queen in his room. It just makes the most sense to me! Yea he might get used to it, but I think kids are pretty adaptable, and if he had to go back to a twin I have a feeling it shouldn't be too difficult a transition.

I would do the queen in his room. You already have it, and him sleeping in a queen is no big deal. DS has a queen bed at his dad's house and switches back to his twin no problem.

I say put the queen in his room. That's exactly what we're doing for E's big girl room. She has a queen mattress on the floor with a padded headboard so it looks like it could be a guest bed when our firends stay over. I don't think it matters if he gets used to having a big bed.

I voted to put the queen in his room. Does it matter that he gets use to a big bed? If you aren't planning on moving anytime soon and the mattress is fine, you wouldn't be getting him a new one anyway, right?

I think I would just put the queen bed in WJ's room for him to sleep on and for guests. Seems like the easiest and least expensive option. Yeah, he might gets used to a large bed, but i'm sure he'll adjust going to a twin someday.

I'd put the Queen bed in WJ's room and when you move into a 4 bedroom home I would get both kid's a Full size bed, not Twin. I am imagining you will still have a playroom for the kids so their bedrooms would not require alot of floor space.

This might get long! But if you're into furniture arranging and figuring out rooms/spaces, please weigh in if you have a minute!! ;)

We have three good sized bedrooms upstairs, and LMW and WJ each have their own room and we'd like to keep it that way. BUT we really need a designated area for overnight guests since our parents are getting elderly, and when they come to visit, since we have small energetic kids, they really need their own space. After LMW was born, we moved the guest room bed (a queen sized ikea platform bed) into the basement (which is mostly finished with a poor carpeting job and a small part of one wall missing) and made the guest room WJ's room. Right now all that's in there is his crib (made into a toddler bed), his dresser, his nightstand, and his beanbag chair.

Even though our basement is really nice for an "almost" finished basement (we've got a set of couches down there, a tv, lots of toys, etc.. it's a great playroom!) My mom doesn't feel comfortable sleeping in the basement, and frankly neither do I. It gets super cold down there no matter what time of year it is, so I don't like putting guests down there. When my parents come over, we inflate our queen aerobed in the living room and they sleep in the kids' play area.

Well, now that WJ is getting older, we've tried out using his room as a guest room with the queen aerobed in there, and we have him sleep in our room. It works great!! especially because our bedroom is HUGE and we have space for ANOTHER queen bed in there (we have a queen bed ourselves, and we can easily fit the queen aerobed in there).

So here's my question. Obviously the thing that makes most sense is to put the queen ikea bed in his room and have him sleep on it, and make it up for guests when they come over (and have him sleep on the queen aerobed in our room). But the reason we haven't already done this is because I don't want him to get used to sleeping on such a big bed. But the queen ikea bed in the basement is just sitting there, unused, while our guests are sleeping on the aerobed either in the living room or in WJ's room (while WJ sleeps in our room... and I sleep on the couch downstairs because I cannot sleep in the same bed as him, I get zero sleep).

The more we realize we're not moving into a house with a 4th bedroom anytime soon, the more I think we should just put the queen ikea bed in WJ's room.

Our other idea is to get a queen futon to put in WJ's room for guests. That way he can stay in his bed but when guests come over, he can sleep on the aerobed in our room. But that still leaves the queen ikea bed in the basement unused AND brings ANOTHER queen sized bed into our house. That would be the third one including ours. And we are dying to upgrade to a king sized bed for ourselves. AND he's gonna need to upgrade to at least a twin sized bed soon. So that plan would mean purchasing 2 new beds in the near future.

I know this is all very long and silly. Such a first world problem... where do I put all my queen sized beds??? ;P But what would you do?
