@LouLouBelle: I just kept ooching it a tiny bit earlier over the course of a couple of weeks. It was really gradual. I still can't get Linus to fall asleep on his own, so he nurses to sleep. I can't figure out how to move away from that habit and it works, so I'm not messing with it right now ;)

We used to put DD down at 10, but around 6 weeks we introduced an earlier bedtime. It took her a few days to get the hang of it, but now she's got it down cold. We still get her out of bed sometime between 10 and 11 for a "dream feed" (i.e. we feed her bottle while she is still asleep). The dream feed helps her to sleep all the way through the night, so you might want to try that out if you're worried about your baby waking earlier with the earlier bedtime.

@LouLouBelle: it definitely works if you can deal with a little bit of struggle in the beginning. even now, we've upped his bedtime to 7:30 and it used to be 8 pm a few weeks ago. the only down side at least for us is that he wakes up earlier in the middle of the night because he's hungry otherwise it's been great.

@Honeybee: yes, she always goes back to sleep at 5 or 6 and no, she doesnt nap at all during the day! 40 min here or there, that's it!

@megwag @cvbee this might be a stupid question, but how did did you know to put them to sleep earlier? I don't really get the way a baby does it on their own...

I guess a night feeding wouldn't be the worst - she only takes five min to nurse - but I want to encourage her to keep these habits!

@clementine I will have to try that, 30 min earlier for a week at a time...

My little 2.5 month guy just shifted himself to an early bedtime and DH and I are loving it. Yes, we do need to do a night feeding, but I don't mind.

When my LO was that age, a bedtime of 9-11pm was the norm (and she never slept more than 3-4 hours in a row) so it seems as though your bedtime isn't actually that bad! Ours changed to much earlier once we sleep-trained.

my LO started sleeping between 9-11 pm then after much effort we got him to sleep now at 7:30 pm, but I will say it was a gradual process. we kept trying to put him in bed 30 mins earlier each week.

We're in the same boat but I'm kinda glad...if NavyBaby went to sleep much earlier he wouldn't get to see DH at ALL since he doesn't get home some nights till 7 (though usually he's home by 6, but still!)

We do bath at 7 and he usually falls asleep on DH by 830. Then I wake him up to eat at 10 when we're going to bed, he wakes up at 3ish to eat again, then he wakes up when DH leaves for work 530 so he just comes in bed with me to snuggle until 730 at that point...

@MegWag: @bree72: My girl loves to sleep. I credit DH for that, he would sleep 24 hours a day if he could. It's his 3rd favorite pastime behind video games and playing guitar. lol

@zippylef: That is amazing and I am jealous!

My 10 week old doesn't fall asleep until 9:30-10 either. I've heard that they'll naturally start going down earlier as they get a little older. Currently I don't care when he falls asleep, just so he stays asleep for more than 3 hours.

10 doesn't seem too bad to me, Sawyer (9 weeks) is stubborn and refuses to go to bed before midnight! If I try he gets mad and fusses, when otherwise he would be happy and smiling and cooing until midnight rolls around.

LO put herself on her own early bedtime. We do bath at 5:45 and she's asleep by 6:15-6:30 every night. She was sleeping through to about 5 until we hit our 3 month growth spurt. Now she wakes up between 2-4 and sometimes around 6-7 to eat and gets up for the day at about 8:30-9. I'm hoping she goes back down to one feeding again after this growth spurt ends.

We've been trying to get her to go later and do bedtime at 7 or 7:30 and she won't do it.

I hear you, LO is 8 weeks and she refuses to go to sleep earlier than 930/1000 no matter how hard I try. I just end up spending more time trying to get her to sleep. And in doing so I fall asleep and wake up at 11pm and the night is gone.
Her sleep is so unpredictable and I truly hope it evens out soon!

Our son is nearly 4 mos and I found he shifted himself earlier naturally. He used to go to bed around 10 also, but now goes down around 8:30 or 9. You may experience some night wakings at first, but I think it'll settle down once the new schedule gets more set. Good luck!

Hmmm, 10-5 is a great 7 hour stretch. Have you tried feeding her at 5/6 and putting her back to bed? Or is she wide awake when she wakes up in the morning?

DS goes to bed around 7:30, but I also dream feed him at 9, and then he gets up again around 2 (up for the day at 6-7). Overall, he gets about 10 hours of sleep a night and about 5 hours in naps. If your LO has a lot of nap time, you might try limiting her naps to see if she'll go to bed earlier at night. She might need one feeding during the night, but it may worth it to have some alone time with your DH every night.

Right now, LO goes to sleep around 10 pm and wakes up at 5 or 6, sleeping straight through. But this seems too late! DH and I don't have any time to ourselves once she goes to sleep! Any advice on pushing bedtime back earlier? Or will that mean she will wake up in the middle of the night to eat? We enjoy our sleep and know we are very lucky! Last night I put her down at 9:45 instead of 10 and she woke up at 2:30! What gives?
