@HappyJax: when Miss A was that age I would feed one side before we started the bedtime routine (bath etc) and then would feed the other side right before bed (we nurse to sleep). Are you breast or bottle feeding because the bottle feeders I know tend not to do the last feed tight before bed.

As for bedtime it's always worth trying the earlier time and a lot of babies naturally move towards an earlier bedtime as they get older.

I am so jealous. My dd will not go to sleep until 10!!! I have tried everything to make it earlier... (She's 11 weeks).

@maybebaby: that's the idea. It's impossible with my DD but apparently it works well for some babies!

@hergreenapples: I'm still not entirely clear what a dream feed is. Do you try to feed them without waking?

Follow up question. Does your baby always eat before bed? DS has been eating about every 3-4 hours but is ready to go back to sleep 1.5-2 hours after waking up from a nap. This makes it tough for me to feed him before bed. He wakes up from his nap, has some activity time and then goes to sleep. I usually can't get him to eat very much.

I'd try it, if it seems it might be what works for him!

Dd didnt get to an earlier bedtime til much later but early bedtimes are good for babies in general, so if he wants it...

We did between 7 and 8 starting at 6 wks...gradually that moved up to between 6 and 630, and now at 8.5 months it's back between 7 and 730. I would try it! Earlier is usually better for babies.

My DD set herself a 6pm bedtime from very young, probably like 2 weeks old. 7pm isn't too early if thats what he wants to do!

I will say that my daughter absolutely benefited from an early bedtime. She quickly stretched her first stint into 7-8 hours early on. She would go 6-2/2:30am.

I did not "dream feed" her.

Weissbluth says earlier bedtimes should start around six weeks, so I would give it a shot! I would probably try for a dream feed before you go to bed for the night.

My 7 week old has started falling into his own pattern of three naps a day and his first night time stretch has lengthened to about 4-5 hours, then goes to 2-3 hour stretches the rest of the night.

I am debating putting him down to sleep at 7/7:30 pm as he really starts getting crabby at that point and he has usually been up 2 hours since his last nap. He wakes up at about 7/8 am each day.

What do you think? Is that too early at this age? Will he benefit from the earlier bedtime this young? Also I'm selfishly worried that I'll be setting myself up for less sleep at night if he gets his first long stretch in while I'm awake :)

I will probably just test it out to see how he does but just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with early bedtimes and babies under 3 months. Thanks!
