R cries after bath as soon as I put her on the changing table. It is a battle every night to get lotion on her, diaper cream, diaper and jammies. Then when I lay her on the changing pad to put her sleep sack on, it starts all over again. Then I am the devil and use the Nose Frieda. Then she is fine once I pick her up, give her the bottle. Then she is practically falling asleep on me when burping but crying starts as soon as I put her in the crib.

So glad to hear that this might be normal! Xander has started doing this to us lately too and it drives me crazy!!! As soon as I get NEAR the changing table, he FLIPS OUT! And I hate just putting him in his crib and leaving while he's red in the face and stomping his legs in frustration - I feel so bad!!! But two minutes after I leave, he's quiet and falls asleep. Crazy babies!

@littlebug: Not always . . . think of it as his only way of trying to communicate that he wants to stay up and party with you guys!

Mine does this, even if she's nursed right before the bath. We just grin and bear it. Sometimes relentlessly cheerful singing helps :/

@MsLipGloss: Maybe, but this is the ONLY time he does this. Never when we drop him off at daycare, when we leave him with grandparents, when we walk out of the room... Wouldn't separation anxiety be more consistent?

Sounds like separation anxiety could be a culprit here!

C was doing this last week, though she is only 3.5 months. I suspect it was one of two things, or a combination of them:
- We started putting her to bed drowsy but awake. I think when we started the routine, she knew it was coming and didn't want to be put into the crib awake, she wanted to be nursed to sleep? Or maybe that was mommy guilt talking. Either way, it's gotten way better so I guess we didn't do any permanent damage.
- She's cold after getting out of the warm tub. I've also started turning the heat up before bath time to make it a little warmer when she gets out, which helps, but I think it's also that she likes bath time and is pissed it's over, combined with being tired and maybe a little cold.

So who knows. She's sleeping better this week so I am just chalking it up to baby being a baby.

Honestly, kids just go through phases like this. At 10 months, right after dinner... I doubt he's hungry.

I dont really have much advice, but I just wanted to say that my daughter went through a VERY rough period with sleep around 9-10 months, so its not unheard of. There is a sleep regression at 9 months.

I could have written this exact post a few months ago. From months 6-11, LO was a DEMON during bedtime routine. He would sometimes start crying during bath, sometimes as soon as he came out. He would cry through lotion, diaper, pjs, and reading a book. It helped a bit to switch nursing with book, so I nursed him before DH reads him a story, but he would still scream until I nursed him. For him, it was just a phase he grew out out--he's generally in a pretty good mood now throughout the routine!

SAME here!!! He loves bath, he's a super happy baby overall. But as soon as he's on the changing table to get dried off and lotioned let the fussing and crying begin! Cries and fights jammies being put on, sleep sack, etc. Drives. Us. Crazy!!!!!!!

Wasn't sure what board to put this under. If someone comes up with a better idea, feel free to move it!

Anyway. D is a super-happy, smiley, giggly baby 99% of the time. Even when he's sick, usually he's still very free with the smiles and rarely fusses. Until bathtime/bedtime. Then it's a full-on meltdown. He is happy happy happy in the tub, but as soon as Hubs wraps him in his towel and brings him into his room to get ready for bed, he starts wailing. We offer the paci, we sing, we tickle, we shush....nothing works. He is just pissed.off. I thought maybe it was that he was tired, so we moved bedtime up 1/2 hour, and still - happy in the tub, screaming all through getting dressed. Right up until Hubs hands him over to me to nurse.

FWIW, our routine looks like this at night - he and I get home around 6. He plays in the crib for 5-10 minutes while I empty out the wetbag from daycare and put away the milk I pumped at work. Then he gets dinner. After dinner, he plays with one of us while the other washes the bottles from daycare. Between 7-7:15, Hubs takes him upstairs for bath. And like he said, he's happy and playing and splashing in the tub. Bathtime is usually 10-15 minutes, then Hubs brings him into his room, where I have the white noise and humidifier going, all ready for bed. And that's when the meltdown hits. He's 10 months old, and this has come and gone since birth, but lately it's REALLY bad - he just screams and seems so angry!

Anyone ever deal with this? Tips? Thoughts? The ONLY explanation I can come up with is that he's hungry, so maybe I need to nurse him before bathtime, then just put him down to bed immediately afterwards? I am at a loss and also at my wits' end.
