@Smurfette: gotcha! Then I would just move teeth brushing to the end! Usually my husband reads stories and when they're done, he says "Go see mom to brush your teeth." My LO will walk to the bathroom and we sit him on the counter to brush his teeth (he's still too short to just use a stool). After he's done brushing his teeth we say night, night and plop him in bed. We've been doing this since 13 months and he's 22 months now.

@Sammyfab: I just worry about the milk being on her teeth all night.
@dolphin: Smart idea! I will remember that.

@Smurfette: we have the EXACT same routine as you! DD just turned one in December and I'm trying to figure this out too. Right now we brush her teeth during bathtime and then I give her a bottle of milk right before bed. After she finishes her bottle, I use one of those finger brushes (it came with the Earths Best toothpaste) to wipe down her teeth again. That way I know the milk isn't sticking on her teeth. I'll probably continue to do this until I get her to bottle wean!

We still give milk (in a straw cup) before bed. Sometimes he drinks it and other times he doesn't. Sometimes we forget to give him milk and other times he asks for it. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule that you can't give milk before bed?

Our routine since 13 months has been:
bath
diaper/jammies
book/milk
brush teeth
bed

DD has all her milk in the earlier part of teh day. Her last sippy/bottle of milk is before her nap at noon. So bedtime is:

Dinner
Run around for 15 mins
bath
lotion and pjs
books
bed

I do the same exact routine. At naps she has a cup instead of a bottle but we haven't forced her to give up te bedtime bottle yet. We're waiting to be done with a few other transitions.

My son refuses to drink milk at meals, so you might have to see how that goes.

At 1 year, the routine was the same as it was from 3 months:
bath
jammies
bottle
books
in bed

DS has milk with all of his meals... when we were weaning, it kind of happened out of the blue when he had two "dinners" once each with diff sets of grandparents. He was so full so I skipped nursing him after his usual bath, story, etc.

Now he usually eats dinner around 530 and we do bath time at 7.

With my oldest I do milk with each meal. And I may have started it before he turned 18 months. With my youngest, gosh, he's 21 months and we still do milk before bed time. It's terrible! I need to cut it out before he gets too attached...but I have a feeling it might be too late. I do, however, read a book after he finishes his bottle and sing two of the same songs before putting him down. He obviously doesn't need that bottle, but I need to find a way for him to drink more during meals like his older brother.

My kids have had pretty much the same routine since 12 months and they are now 3 and 5.

We do snack at 645pm. Upstairs at 7pm. Brush teeth, read books, then lights out.

If its a bath night that happens at 630. (we do every other day in the winter)

That's what we do - milk and water with dinner. Then it's bath (we brush her teeth in the tub), jammies, a few minutes of rocking/holding with her seahorse playing in the background, and then bed.

ETA: I have also started bringing a sippy cup upstairs (with water) so that she can have a couple of sips while I am getting her lotioned/diapered up after her bath.

DS is 16 months old and still breastfeeds. I still nurse him every night as the last step in the routine. Maybe a cup of water instead for your LO? I know they don't recommend milk at night due to tooth decay but I'm not sure at what point that really becomes an issue....

Putting this under sleep cause right now we do bath brush teeth, lotion, jammies, and bottle. We read to her while she drinks her bottle. When she is finished with the bottle, I sing her a couple songs, put her in the crib, sound machine on, and lights out.

How does this work after 1? Do I just give milk with her dinner? Then just do bath, brush teeth, jammies, book, bed.......

How do you do it?
