Ds is 3, DD is almost 6 months.

DS eats dinner at 5:30/5:45. DH usually gets home between 5:45 and 6. DD gets a bath at 6/6:15, and then nurses/has a bottle, book, and bed. While I am feeding DD, DS gets a bath (usually around 6:30), and then goes into bed quietly when DD is sleeping in the room. He's usually asleep by 7:30. Sometimes, if DS woke up on the later side, we wait to give him a bath until DD is asleep, around 6:45/7pm. This is what I do if I'm on my own for bedtime obviously. And while I"m bathing and putting DD to bed, DS is pretty good about playing on his own.

When my kids were the age of yours, I just stuck to LO1's normal bedtime routine, and did DD2's routine very late, usually after DH's and my dinner (always after DD1was asleep).

When DD2 could sit reliably in a bath sling seat, I started bathing the two of them together - actually, that may have been around 5-6 months. It was tough at first but eventually I got the hang of it. I'd pull DD2 out and lay her on a towel/pad on the bathroom floor to dress her while DD1 got to do some more wild play in the bath. Then I read to both, breastfed DD2 during story if needed, and put them to bed (sometimes DD2 stayed up a bit). Now at almost 2 and 4, it's easy (though chaotic) to do everything together. I dread the day when they don't want to do it together!

I'm on my own the majority of evenings too. If they both need a bath I'll do them at the same time around 6:00. I try not to do this, I try to do dd2's bath during the day when I'm home with hera. They each only get baths 3x a week unless they are overly dirty.

Dd2 (6 months) goes down around 6:30. It is much easier now that I don't need to feed her to sleep and it only takes a few minutes.

Then I concentrate on dd1 - bath if she needs one, some play time, and getting ready for bed around 7:30. DH is usually home by now so he helps put her down.

@Foodnerd81: yes my two share a room. I rock dd until she falls asleep while my 3 year old either has DH read to him if he is home or reads to himself if he isn't home until I can put dd in crib and lay with him and read for a little bit. That is until the past week or so where he is bouncing off the walls at bedtime and takes like an hour to wind down!

I'm impressed you all bathe both kids every night! I actually have got a system for bathing them together already, which is fun because it's an activity that kills time when I need it (toddler likes to help wash the baby, then I take the baby out and put her in her bouncy seat that I brought into the bathroom and toddler gets to splash and be more wild). But that's like twice a week at this point.

Tonight I totally thought I nailed it- DH brushed toddlers teeth then we all read bedtime stories in her room. Said good night to her, diaper and swaddled for baby, nursed her almost to sleep... Then totally out of character for her it took almost 2 hours to get her to sleep. It's always something.

@matador84: yours share a room, right? Do they go to sleep at the same time then? You just put them both in and say goodnight? I'm thinking if these two ever share a room I'll have to stagger bedtime and have the later one sneak in like a ninja...

@Foodnerd81: we just do things together until it is time to nurse. LOs are now 4 (DD) and 8 months (DS) but we have had regular solo bedtimes since about 2 months. We alternate bath nights for my sanity. So it goes like this:
6:30 bath for one (DD "helps" with the baby or he hangs out with me and we sit in the floor while she bathes)
6:45 DD in pjs
6:55 Everyine brush teeth
7:00 go upstairs. DD watches a show on the iPad, DS into pjs, nurse, bed
7:30 back downstairs with DD, read stories, say good night

If we are running late sometimes I will wait and do teeth brushing with DD after DS is asleep. If she did not listen and lost her show then she plays in her room and I watch her on the monitor.

You will find a routine! Good luck!

Bath together. DD1 in tub, DD2 in tub, wash DD2, get her out, diaper/pj and when she was really little sometimes I'd nurse her while DD1 played in the tub. Wash DD1 and get her out. DD1 watches tv (or if DH is home they hang out) while I get baby sister settled, usually just nursing and songs. She's too tired for books in the evening. Then I come out and get DD1 diapered, pjs, hair and teeth brushed, books, prayers, songs and bed. This has been the routine since DD2 was around 2 months old. So 10 months now almost. It's down to a science. My DH isnt always home at bedtime and it's always last minute so I had to have a plan that I could execute alone from the beginning.

Give bath together around 645-7p.
Go to bedroom, get them dressed, lotion, brush teeth, etc, finish by 715-720.
Books 720-740
Goal is asleep by 8.
Lately I've been achieving that for DD but DS hasn't been going to bed until 9 or so.

@Foodnerd81: I think it will get easier the older the baby gets. I've been doing solo bedtime most nights for the past few months, but my girls are 3.5 years apart. When DD2 was an infant, I would often nurse her in DD1's room while I read a bedtime story, and then either finish putting DD1 to bed or put DD2 down and come back to tuck in DD1 (she would look at books while I tended to DD2).

Now they are 5 and 18 months and tonight I bathed them both together, got DD2 out first and got her ready for bed. The bathroom is directly across from DD2's room so I can see DD1 in the bath. She played in the tub while I finished getting DD2 ready and after I put DD2 down I got her out and helped her finish getting ready for bed.

For me the key to solo double bedtimes has just been to start everything early. Early dinner, early bath, because it will just take me longer to do everything myself. Of course the older DD1 gets, the more independence she has, but she likes to be with me. It can be tough sometimes, but you will work out a system!

My girls are 28 m apart and dd2 goes to bed first and (still) nurses to sleep.
On solo nights we eat dinner at 6pm. If it's a bath night we immediately do dual bath after dinner. I like to get both dressed in the bathroom where it's nice and warm and I can kee an eye on both. I just bring their jammies in. Then around 6:45, we FaceTime daddy, chat with him, read a story together. We say good night to him by 7. Dd1 will either get a show in my room or she can play with her dollhouse in the office or read in her room. I prefer this because I can lock all the doors to the house, she has to go past dd2's room to get to the bathroom or go downstairs. I put dd2 down first then come grab dd1 and put her to bed.

On an ideal night, DD2 is in her crib by 7:45 and DD1 by 8pm.

I have a 9mo-DD and a 2.9yo-DS. If I bathe them separately the baby goes in the kitchen sink while the toddler finishes up dinner, then I settle DS with a show while DD gets lotion, diaper, jammies, sleepsack, book, nursing, bed. This takes about the same or less time than an episode of Daniel Tiger. Then books with DS, bath, teeth, potty, jammies, bed. If I bathe them together we start bath earlier and DS gets two shows.
6:00 dinner
6:40 baby bath
6:50 baby bedtime/toddler show
7:20 toddler books
7:45 toddler bath
8:00 toddler bed

My two are 2.5 years apart and my big girl goes to bed first otherwise the wee guy is too easily distracted!

They both go in the bath or shower together then my girl (3.5) gets herself dressed while I dress Felix (12 months old today!), I then do teeth before reading my girl her stories while Felix hangs around trying to steal all her things! Once Miss A is in bed I nurse Felix to sleep.

What is your bedtime routine like for two or more kids? What do you do together or staggered? What are their ages and what's the timing?

I often do bedtime solo so divide and conquer won't work for us, plus I need to nurse the baby (3.5 months) and the toddler (2.5 years) only wants me anyway. I have been just getting the toddler down then playing with the baby before nursing her to sleep, but she's starting to have more trouble falling asleep and I think a bedtime routine will help, just trying to figure out how to fit it together!
