DD isn't on even close to the same kind of schedule that DS was at this age. I think it's just harder with #2.

She usually wakes up for the day when we all get up and doesn't end up falling asleep for a morning nap (there's too much going on) until we leave for our outing of the day- usually at 9:30 or 10. Then she naps in her carsear or carrier on and of until we get home from storytime, play group, shipping, etc at around 11:30. Elliot goes down for his nap at 1:15 and I put her down for a nap in her crib either right before or right after him. They usually wake up at around the same the and she'll take another catnap about an hour later, usually in the ergo while I'm making dinner.

I do bedtime on my own usually because DH is still working and I give them both a bath together at 7, wrap her up and put her in we bouncer while I put Elliot's PJs on, read him stories and out him to bed. Then I lotion her, swaddle her, nurse her and put her to bed when she's done eating (about 8:30ish). She'll either sleep until 1:30am or 3am...I can't figure out what I do differently the nights that she sleeps longer. I wish I could! She'll just nurse and go back to bed and she'll typically wake up 3 hours later.

Oh mama, you're doing great!! DD definitely did not have a predictable bedtime until about 11-13 weeks. I remember having no clue how to start bedtime routine bc you never knew when she was going to sleep! We were able to finally start a routine at three months bc she started getting tired around 7 each night. Our routine still varies a bit depending on her last nap, but we start bath, book, nurse btw 6:30-7 and she's asleep btw 7-7:45 each night. It will get better!

The days are a bit different. At around two months, she started needing naps after abt 1.5 hrs awake time. Since, however, her morning wakeup time and her length of naps varied, we never had a set schedule. At almost four months, we still don't have a daytime schedule, but she's starting to be awake more like two hours and I TRY to start her last nap of the around 4ish.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: He's kind of all over the place. We did 3 days of daycare this week (where he napped really badly) and started getting 6 and 7 hour stretches (followed by shorter ones). But I was home with him yesterday and last night it was like he'd regressed to a month ago and his sleep was awful.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Well we don't have a toddler too! And we basically don't have much of an evening any more. Dinner around 6, watch a show or two (if he's not having a crazy witching hour), bath, then I nurse and D falls asleep by 8:30. I go to bed at 9-9:30. After bath DH does dishes and walks the dog and comes up to read and go to bed.

DS is 10.5 weeks and we have a loose routine on the days I'm home with him, which is basically to try to have ~90 minutes of awake time. And then we do bath time at 7:30, bed immediately after. At first it took a long time to get him to go down, but now it's relatively easy.

The thing I've learned with DS is that even if something doesn't work right away, it gets better if we keep consistently trying. It's a slow process, but it gets better little by little.

@hilsy85: I have tried I make that her bedtime. However, 10:00 rolls around and she is so alert and happy, there is nothing I can do to make her sleep. I swear it is the only time of the day that she enjoys being awake. So I end up Unswaddling her and letting her be awake for longer. It's killing me, though, because then I have to get up early with DD1.

It's nice to hear other people say their kids weren't on a schedule at this age. I have a friend who keeps talking about her 8-week old's "schedule" and it's freakin me out!

I agree with @lawbee11; why cn't that nap time be bedtime? And treat every wake after that like a MOTN waking?

R wasn't on any kind of schedule at that age. She would fall asleep anywhere between 9-10 but it was WORK to get her asleep and she was nursing for an hour. It wasn't till we started day care at 12 weeks that she started going to sleep at 8pm and then moved up to 7.

She didn't get on a nap schedule till 9 months. She would wake up and go down for naps at different times. Heck she still does, but we try and do it around the same times.

Honestly, we were the same way. Sleep was INSANITY at 10w. I finally got so crazy that somewhere in the middle of his 10th week, I bought a sleep training book and just DID IT. It's been amazing ever since.
Also: you could try one small method of the book but not the whole thing:
He says to feed every 2 hours from 7-7 so that at 7pm, she has gotten all her nutritional needs met and is more likely to sttn (if you try to force it). We "forced" it by using a pack instead of offering to breast feed, and very soon after, he got used to it and sttn.

Is your DH home to help divide and conquer or do you do most nights by yourself? At that age I think M was going to sleep between 8 and 8:30. I think ideally your baby's nap should actually be bedtime. Could you put them down one right after the other? Could DD1 entertain herself with something while you put DD2 down first?

ETA: You're definitely not failing! I can't even imagine how hard having 2 LOs would be.

ETA2: Have you heard of Moms on Call? I have the app for my iPhone...they have sample schedules by age if you have a toddler and a baby.

I feel like I'm failing. My DD2 is almost ten weeks and she has no semblance of a schedule or routine. I remember when dd1 was this age, we had her on a 90-minute schedule (some form of sleep every 90 minutes), a strict 7:30 bedtime, and she was sleeping 7-9 hours for her first stretch. With DD2, I can't seem to find the time or energy to get her on a routine. She is usually awake until 11:00 at night.

I have no idea how to get her to bed earlier. DD1 goes down at 8, so I put DD2 down for a "nap" while I put her down (because she no where near ready for bed before DD1 goes down). But then she usually naps until 9:30, and I can't get her to sleep in her bed for actual nighttime sleep until at least 11!

She just falls asleep when she pleases. We have no nap schedule. I know I should put her on a bedtime routine, but by the time DD1 goes down I am so exhausted I just want to veg.

Help! Any action steps for me? Would love the schedules your LOs are on if they are around the same age.
