@bpcmarj: I switched to a different position within my company that is only e/o weekend, now I have a little extra time for school and "me time". I definitely need the exercise time - both for physical health and mental stability lol!

@bpcmarj: Yep ditto what HotChild said. Also check out the Jamie eason trainer-it was 4x a week and I used it to get familiar with lifting PP again.

@bpcmarj: also keep in mind that those of us who lift heavy do less reps than you're describing. The max i would do during a lifting portion/session would be 5x5.

Before I started crossfit I really loved The New Rules of Lifting for Women and Nerd Fitness workouts.

@blackbird: and here I was proud of my 35lb squat. Haha no really, DH lifts an obscene amount so I am almost skewed into thinking nothing is ever going to be "heavy" but it feels good to me!

I typically start with a comfortable weight 10 reps, then up the weight as I go and try for a 4 sets (10 reps, 10 reps, 8, reps, and 6 reps at the heaviest). Snow and car trouble has kept me out of the gym for about a week or two and I am SO SO missing it. I can't wait to get back to it.

And then focus on what I am eating!

Crossfit!! I love it! My other favorite is hot power yoga. It really balances out the CF for me. :)
But now that I'm 30 weeks pregnant, I've had to scale back. I still try to go 1 or 2 times a week. But due to SPD, I'm really limited. Getting to the point where I might suspend my membership until I'm ready to go back after birth.

I started Crossfit a little over a year ago and really fell in love with weightlifting. I'm a small person and for the first time I feel strong. I love to shock people with what I can do at the gym and in day to day life. Back squats, deadlifts, and cleans are my favorites.

I had to stop at the end of last year because of traveling and then because of my FET. Now that I am pregnant with twins I doubt my doctor will give me approval to go back. Once I give birth and recover I hope that I can fit time to lift in my schedule. Right now I'm watching my booty shrink and it makes me sad. I miss squats!

I lift as part of cross training for triathlons. I lift two days/week. I focus on upper body one day and lower body the other days. I use the gym I have access to at work so I do machines, free weights, fitness room equipment like bosu balls, kettlebells, etc. I haven't done CrossFit mainly due to how expensive it is! I love feeling strong from lifting. I'm not super jacked but have more definition in my muscles than this time last year when I wasn't lifting. My goal is to be able to do an unassisted pull up and it's so hard to do! I got to only 10 lbs assisted but then I think I strained my right bicep and had to back off. I'm down to 30 lbs of assisted weight right now.

Lifting is what has kept me exercising! I have always given up in the past because honestly I hate cardio. It is a struggle to keep doing it. But an hour of weights goes so fast for me- I still get my heart rate up, I'm still building strength and endurance, and burning fat.

I started taking a body pump class and approached the instructor for assistance with technique, after about a month of taking the class 2-3x a week, I felt comfortable doing weights without a class.

My routines is typically similar to this:
Squats with barbell
Lunges with barbell
Deadlifts
Overhead press
Cleans
Chest press with barbell
Side flies with dumb bells
Laying flat skull crushers with barbell
Bicep curls with barbell

I usually still try to do ten minutes of cardio whether it's a quick run, jump rope, high knees, or similar.

I did Crossfit for awhile but stopped while pregnant-my back can't take it. I lift heavy at the gym. 150 lb squat, 100lb overhead...go big or go home :)

I've done a few routines: 4 days or two day splits....I saw a lot of progress doing splits four days a week. Two days upper body, two days lower

I do about 20 min of HIIT usually. Not pregnant. Now I hang out on a bike

Before I got pregnant, I was lifting at CrossFit! I'm pretty petite and it was awesome to eventually lift more than some of the more "stronger"-looking women in my class. I love how strong it made me feel because up til then all I ever did was cardio. Such a huge difference and I can't wait to get back to it after I can get back to the gym!

I lift at the gym, alternating upper body vs lower body days and usually only 2 to 3 times a week. I am surprised at the progress I can make in that short time!
I also follow a relatively pain free plan: I lift whatever weight until I can do 3 sets of 15, good form and slow. Then increase by 5 or 10 pounds and work my way up to 3 sets of 15.
I enjoy feeling strong and it definitely decreases the pain I have in my back from lifting toddler girl all the time.

@Mrs. Microscope: i have been going to the gym with him and he is definitely making sure I am not lifting light!! Just figured I would see if there were others:) iI am still learny so I am not lifting that heavy, but I am certainly lifting heavier than I ever have before. I haven't done much with kettlebe but am interested in trying some. My DH mentioned kettle bell squats, so I should see about those.

I lift! Be sure to use heavy enough weights, a lot of women are scared of bulking up, but that won't happen, I promise! I do a mix of plyo and hiit with my weights to burn extra fat. Squats are my favorites, but I also love kettlebell training. I'd your husband is into it, he should be able to help. I'd also take advantage of a free personal trainer session if your gym offers it. Good luck!

@sarac: when I am home I am lucky if i can focus on something for 10 minutes, but can do much longer at the gym. I only have 2.5lb weights at home which feel like nothing to me now!

If you lift, what does this look like to you? Crossfit? Weight training at the gym?

DH is a serious powerlifter and I recently (December) started lifting, too. It feels so great and I am actually sticking to it this time. I have been lifting at the gym, though this winter has been brutal so we are going to get a few pairs of dumbbells for me to use at home if I can't make it. At the gym, I am typically training 5 days a week and focusing on one body part a day with cardio at the end of my workout (since I am trying to cut some fat, too).
