That is a very normal amount to get after a nursing session! And there will always be enough milk for baby--your breasts continue to produce.

I think that sounds perfectly normal! You won't get a ton because you just fed your LO but remember you can't empty your breasts. Keep pumping at the same time and in a week or so your body will adjust. Its slow to build a stash but once your body gets used to it, you will get better/more.

Your boobs are like a faucet, they don't really ever totally empty. The foremilk/hindmilk thing is kind of confusing and misleading. The more you nurse/pump the fattier your milk is throughout that session. But the longer it sits in your boob the more it separates. Just like leaving a bottle of pumped milk in the fridge. If you're pumping and nursing frequently, there shouldn't be to much of a foremilk/hindmilk issue. Her poop will be a good clue if there is. Kellymom.com is a GREAT breastfeeding resource!

Your body continuously makes breastmilk. If you are pumping after nursing and getting the amount you are means that you LO is doing a good job while nursing and your body is not overproducing milk. Also keep in mind that your body may not respond to the pump as well as your LO so give it time. If you are getting 2.5oz after nursing, I say that is great seeing that I only get 4oz when I pump instead of nursing (I'm back at work).

If you are pumping right after a nursing session, you'd be getting more hindmilk, not foremilk. I wouldn't worry about not having enough next time - you never "run out" of milk and you are actually just encouraging your body to make more, especially for that morning session.

My baby is three weeks old and breastfeeding well, so I'm starting to pump to build up a supply in the freezer and so my DH can help with feeding. I usually feed after a morning nursing session, and so far I only pump enough for a small 2.5 oz bottle, so it's only 1 or 1.5 oz per side.

My question is, does this mean I'm only getting fore milk since I'm not pumping more? If I pump until I feel "drained", wont that mean less milk for baby when she gets hungry the next time? Help!
