@cmomma17: It is crazy you mention that you are so tired to even stand up. I still have days like that. I spoke to my doctor about that and she said basically when you think your house/apartment is messy, grab your child and keys and get out of the house. Ask your DH to help clean up later and take some time to yourself.

All the weaning comments are really interesting. LO isn't really weaning yet, but over the last few weeks he has started nursing less. He goes longer between sessions and sessions are much much shorter.

Yes, mine hit out of nowhere around 7 months PP... which coincided with weaning. I met with my OB who explained that PPD can happen anytime in the first year, it's not always immediate. I ended up taking a low dose med. I was only on it for a few months but I really don't know how I would have survived without it.

See your doctor or seek out therapy. Don't be embarrassed, you're not alone. Your LO needs you to take care of yourself and be healthy.

I have good days still, I just feel tired and 'down' the majority of the time lately.
And when I say tired, I don't mean sleepy. I mean, I'm sitting in this chair and I literally can't motivate myself to stand up.

I'm trying to get into a better routine with housework, because I get even more overwhelmed when the apartment is a wreck. Been trying small doses of exercise too.

Yup I think it's pretty common just after 6 months. My friend and I both felt really blue around 8-10 months post partum, I think it's hormonal due to decreased breast feeding. Hang in there and talk to someone or see a doctor if you need to!! It's normal so don't feel like you are alone.

Mine was really noticeable around the 2 month mark. I've heard lack of sleep can also contribute, and I've noticed you're in the same boat as me sleep-wise. If you need somebody to talk to you can always wall me! I will drop you a note

You can also get ppd from the hormonal flux of weaning and waiting to get your period back. I hope you feel better, mama.

I think up to at least a year it can be diagnosed as PPD. My therapy group when I had PPD had babies up to 8 or 9 months old, and we were all diagnosed with severe PPD. Find a therapist ASAP if you feel yourself sliding. I also found some great support and resources on the postpartumprogress website.

I was diagnosed within the first few months, but I actually didn't start my medication until closer to 5 months, since at that point it wasn't getting any better, despite the fact that things were getting easier with DD. I think for me, it was related to weaning, actually, and all the hormone imbalance at that point. I would encourage you to talk to your doctor. There are so many changes and difficulties around being a first time mom, in particular. You are doing great!

Not diagnosed here either, but I definitely went through a very unhappy, sad time beginning a few months post partum, once the high of having a new baby wore off! It has pretty much gone away on it's own, but I would recommend at least talking to someone if you can. My DH was very supportive of me going to therapy since he knew I was miserable, but things got better on their own.

Not diagnosed, but I felt PPD around 10 months postpartum. It does help to find something to do for yourself and do not be afraid to ask for help. It is a tough tough feeling.

My PPD was immediate, but both my doctor and counselor said the first occurrence of PPD is very common up to a year pp (and even longer for some women)

Yes. I was completely fine (actually the happiest I had ever been) until the 6 month mark. Then it turned into a very dark and horrible phase for about 3 months. I went to therapy which helped and tried to do more for myself (going for a run, eating healthy, painting my nails, etc).

Did anyone experience PPD, but way later? Like past the 3 months mark?

I'm feeling depressed at 6 months and it's getting worse each day. Would love to hear some stories. Not sure if it's post partum, or just 'regular' depression.

Thanks
