@Thehistoryofus: she was born with an umbilical hernia and it hasn't gone completely in yet? our ped said if it didn't go in by itself, we would have to do surgery when she was 3 or so.

@Mrs. Bee: This is our daughter too but hers is about the size of a thimble. At 10 months its still there and I'm not sure she will ever have an innie.

I'm still not entirely sure if my baby has an innie or an outie at 3 months. Her belly button is all healed, but it's not a definitive innie or outie. I think it's an innie that flips back into an outie at the center again (kind of what my belly button looked like during pregnancy before it fully popped out), but that could change.

@chopsuey119: oh! Our ped cleaned the stump for me when we saw him this week. He got some bits off and helped get it to fall off. I'll get in there and work on the caked-on black stuff. Maybe I'll ask him about that when I see him again next week.

15 months!! Yikes!

@mediagirl: LO has an innie. You can get an alcohol swab and clean the black out. I left mine in LO's belly and it hardened and is a B to clean now. It's almost all gone.. after 15 months!
My pediatrician cleaned it out a bit for us. HAHA. I guess she got tired of seeing the black.. ?

I'm not sure! His cord fell off pretty cleanly and it didn't look like it was gonna be an outie at that point. It's definitely a deep innie now.

M's cord fell off last night! There is still a little bit of black stuff left in her belly button that I'm sure will fall out soon.

Totally unrelated: when did you know if your lo was going to have an innie or an outie?
