@shopaholic: I'm convinced that loose clothing just makes us look fat, not pregnant. It's silly to camouflage it, you can't camouflage a 7-month belly without looking like you're wearing a tent! ;)

@ladyfingers: Thanks lady! Yeah, I did actually respond to the "wear looser clothing so it doesn't show so much" comment by saying, "I AM almost 7 months preggers, why would I want to HIDE it?" And the comment from your friend? UGH! Rude!

Dude, not to be blunt, but EFF those people. I am up 30ish pounds at 32 weeks and only wear form-fitting stuff and if somebody isn't showing at 8 months then THEY should be self-conscious, not YOU. Ugh! I am so over people thinking they can make snide comments about a beautiful pregnant woman's body. You are growing a baby -- making a human being! Why would you want to hide that shizz? It's gorgeous! And so are you. Rock that pregnant bod, lady. Screw those stupid people (not that your relatives are stupid, but those comments are just dumb). Everybody keeps asking me if I'm having twins and I want to die but then I come on here and see all the bump photos and I'm right on track and it makes me feel so much better. People just have no perspective -- or tact -- when it comes to the pregnant body and what it's "supposed" to look like.

Quick funny: At my friend's shower, she is the same exact time along as me (due 3 days after me), and another friend and I were talking about how she is barely showing at all, and I was joking that I felt like a big blob when I walked in. This friend goes, "Well, you and she have totally different body types. I mean, I don't think she's ever had an ounce of fat on her." I thought for a brief moment, "I should be offended." But I really wasn't lol. I just laughed.

@shopaholic: when I was trying to get back into shape, I bought Tracy Anderson's Post-Pregnancy DVD. At the beginning she said, "not too long ago, I was where you are now - I had gained almost 60lbs when I was pregnant with my son". I literally cried, haha.
I don't know why people choose pregnancy to be so cruel and competitive. If you and your baby are happy and healthy at the end, you win. That's all that matters.
Oh - and from the pictures you've put out there YOU LOOK AMAZING - like, supermodel amazing ;)

@rachiecakes: @mrs. wagon: Thanks ladies! Your replies literally brought a few tears to my eyes. Most definitely I appreciate having the bump and being pregnant. I wanted to so desperately while TTC and after my m/c and for the most part, I'm really proud of the bump! It's just the "statements" I get about the bump that I think are giving me a complex. And things just like what @mrs. wagon: said about selective memory! Like when my MIL and SIL say that SIL only gained 20lbs with baby #2. Then DH finally had to tell me, "yeah, but she definitely didn't only gain 20lbs with baby #1! How come they never mention that to you?!"

@mrs. wagon: it totally stinks, doesn't it? It was so hard for me to breastfeed and go back to work and pump, my supply was awful and I spent a lot of time and money on it and on top of it all, I wasn't losing any weight!
If someone had told me that I'd feel this good about myself now six months ago, I wouldn't have believed them.

@rachiecakes: totally agree with this. I was exclusively nursing with my first and didn't drop that last 5 lbs until over a year PP. This time around I'm exclusively pumping and I'm under pre pregnancy weight at 4 months PP. Everyone (and every pregnancy!) is different!!

at almost 7 months you should most definitely be showing!! or I would be worried, honestly!! You are growing A HUMAN BEING inside yourself for goodness' sake. Don't listen to anyone because all they want to do is sensationalize your changing body with very little regard to your feelings...!!! Especially older Asian ladies with selective memories ("My belly stayed completely flat until right before I gave birth, then after he came out my belly was flat again"). DEFINITELY wear things that flatter your belly and are slim all over because that's the best way to flatter your body in its current state. Some of the dresses might make your bump look bigger but that just makes your body behind the bump appear slimmer anyway!! And this is the only time your body looks like this, so embrace it and rock it!! I know you will ;) To me, there is nothing more beautiful than a pregnant woman, because she (and the baby inside) is a miracle AND working 24x7! And it's a blessing too. Some women will never experience a baby belly. So rock it, girl!!!

(p.s. I also didn't lose everything immediately with breastfeeding. I was, again, super depressed about it. I avoided photos and events because of it. It wasn't until DS started solids and I stopped breastfeeding 24/7 that I was able to lose all the weight, that's just how it was for me. Just because something works for one person, doesn't mean it will work for everyone. If there's one thing I've learned, it's don't be so hard on yourself.)

@BabyBoecksMom: Thanks. Oh yes! DH is really supportive, always telling me how hot or sexy I look. Or when I voice my doubts, he always tells me how I've got "a baby in there!" and reiterates what the baby size should be that week (I tell him the fruits & veggies thing every week). My "doh" responses to these comments have been something along the lines of "well, I'm almost 7 months pregnant, so shouldn't I be showing?" Yeah... complex.

The wise Heidi Klum once said about pregnancy, supermodel or not 'it all just goes to shit in the end'.
Be good to yourself. You're supposed to gain weight. You're not going to gain exactly like anyone else. Keep doing what you're doing and try not to listen to what people say. I don't know what it is about pregnancy that people get so crazy rude about. I gained almost 60lbs, was swollen all over and guess what? I'm back in a size 2, no stretchmarks, and feel so good about myself that I'm scheduling a boudoir shoot (I've never done that before!) Everyone that kept telling me how fat I was and asked if I was having twins :P
I beat myself up all the time because I didn't gain 30lbs and stay skinny like my friends and was so self-conscious and insecure, I wouldn't say it took away from enjoying the pregnancy but I wish I hadn't worried about it so much.

I'm sorry :-(

It does seem to come in spurts though. All of a sudden you'll go from looking fat, to being noticeably pregnant. Just remember that every pregnancy is different and everyone will have something to say (nice or not). Just try your best to nod and smile. Your body will grow as it needs to.

Is your SO a good ear and supportive enough to let you vent to him when you're feeling self conscious?

I have been looking forward to getting a noticeable bump this whole pregnancy, but the last few days have worked up some weird body complex I must have or something. I feel like I've been growing overnight, every night for the last 3-4 days! (27 1/2 weeks now)
Every day I seem quite visibly bigger! I can only hope it's a temporary growth spurt (I had one in 2nd tri) and that it will slow down a bit to a more gradual pace.
I want to love the bump and be happy that strangers can finally tell I'm preggers! Yup, just this past week is finally when strangers have started to notice.
But I think the complex I'm getting is from all these blunt Asian relatives I've got. I've literally been told these comments by relatives in the last week:

- "Don't eat too much. You'll get fat!"
- "You're Asian - you'll BLOW UP the last two months."
- "Whoa! You are SO BIG! You were so small just last week! I didn't recognize you!" (This from my MIL.)
- "Oh yeah! You can see your belly now! You should have gained what, 8 lbs now?" (Ummm...I'm up like 12lbs...)
- "Just don't wear such cute stuff that shows your belly. Looser stuff will hide it."
- "My friend was 8 months at her shower and still not hardly showing!"

I don't know where this self-conscious body complex is coming from, but DH is constantly telling me how good I look and how sexy I am. But honestly ladies, I'm starting to feel really un-sexy during "sexy time" and waver between loving that I'm finally looking pregnant to cringing when I'm worried I'll "blow up" huge! :( What to do?
