If didn't really show until 24 weeks and even now people are shocked when I tell them I'm due the 1st- yes, as in I could have my baby any day now. I got a lot of flack for not being big enough and that feels just as bad, especially when people can be so accusatory in their tones.

Most days I don't mind.
But some days it gets a little old. My bump is small and I'm totally fine with it as long as my OB tells me the baby is growing properly.
I have a co-worker who is also pregnant now and my one friend (who I know means no harm) loves to say you're almost as big as her (me) now! Co-worker is 20 weeks and I'm 34.
Some days it's just annoying!!!!
First off, I'm a lot smaller than her. She's a bigger girl than me. I had NO stomach at all to start with. She did. So she already had a head start from stomach flab that I did not have.

Gr.

He just made the comment again so I'm a little ticked off right now.

P.S. And of course his comment to her was "are you sure it's only 1 in there". Again, I know he means no harm. But some days it's annoying...

I think people should just stick to saying "you look great!" which many people do it's just the other half that say how big I am! My husband also likes to comment about how my boobs look like they are about to "pop." Oh the joys!

I was all belly and boobs. I mean all belly, straight out. From behind I didn't look pregnant. From front on I looked really small. People would ask when I was due, I'd say 3 weeks, they'd say no way! So I'd turn side on and it was like " omg, you ARE due soon!". Yeah, I know.

I get called small and big in the same day, many times a day. People can't think of anything else today.
Many times the people who say I am big are the ones who last saw me 4 weeks ago, so it's about the change.

I get called small because in my lab coat and with my huge boobs, my belly doesn't stick out as much as they expect. If my boobs were smaller I (my belly) would appear much bigger.

Also.. I got belly rubs from almost half the patients I saw today! WHAT?
And tons of people say "wow! you're still working?"

People used to tell me how big I was or how I had to be having twins blah blah, all.the.time. It made me so mad! It's hard to watch you body change so dramatically, and it doesn't help when people make you feel even more uncomfortable about your body. I think they are just trying to make conversation, but still. It's rude. If it makes you feel any better, now people constantly tell me how small I am, and how well I'm carrying. I guess I just popped way early so I seemed huge for as far as I was. People just need to learn how to properly comment on a pregnant woman's body. If you aren't going to tell me I look good, then keep your mouth shut! ;)

I'm the same way. Since 30 weeks or so people have been treating me like I'm about to pop... and back then I still had a whole lot more growing to do! I have a long torso, but my baby bump sits pretty low and sticks straight out, so I look huge. Also, I was small to begin with, so my belly looks ginormous, even though I'm in the totally normal range for weight gain.
I just try to laugh it off and say, "yeah, I feel like a whale". Ugh.

Everyone tells me my belly is tiny, they even ask me if I'm sure about my due date because I cant possibly have a 34 week old baby in such a tiny belly. It doesnt bother me too much, I've realized people feel the need to acknowlege the pregnancy and just want to say SOMETHING about it, regardless of how offensive it might seem

I haven't been told that yet, but I definitely understand all of the feelings that go along with your size. One day, I feel very small (I'm 21 weeks), and the next day, I'm feeling huge. I feel like everyone is constantly judging as to how big you look, and how much bigger you are going to get.

My husband told me the other day that I am going to get huge, because I'm short, have a very short torso, and I am carrying him out front. I laughed and said that I knew I was going to get huge, but once I was huge that he should refrain from telling me so.

I also plan on joking back with any of my friends who say "You're huge!" that it is never a compliment to tell a woman- in any stage of her life- that she is huge. With a laugh of course! I hope that will get the point across!! :)

I definitely agree with just telling people they look great. I gained the appropriate amount of weight during pregnancy and am short but I have a long torso and never looked very big. I got a lot of questions after people finding out how far along I was like "Is the baby growing okay?" (Which he was!) "Are you eating enough?" You would think that it would be great to hear that you aren't very big, but that got old too.

I. Feel. Your. Pain. If I could give you a big fat belly-bumping hug right now, I would. I had this last weekend at the outlets and I just wanted to cry. Now I'm feeling big because I have looked at the scale and probably the next person to make a comment like that will see me cry!

Just like kids, every woman is different with how she carries her baby and how much she weighs. There is no perfect size in pregnancy. Keep your head up and just know you're doing all the right things for your baby. And maybe next time someone says something like that to you, just respond with, "Well, you're not looking to svelte these days either!"

Or maybe don't.... :)

It is really annoying to hear how big you are day in and day out. I know how big I am – I’m carrying the belly around 24/7, I know it’s there. I hate comments like “will you even go to your due date?”, “you look ready to deliver already!”, or “how can you get any bigger?!”. I have a short torso and a small frame, I can’t help how big I look, but I’m not abnormally huge and measure exactly on target for LO’s “age”. Bah.

I don't think people realize how rude it can sound. No woman wants to be called big, even if it's because she's pregnant. My husband learned because his coworder was pregnant before me and he heard her yell at someone for calling her big, lol. So he would always tell her that she looked good, when in his mind he was thinking, "she's getting big." And he knew not to call me big either.

Why do people comment on how big/small you are if pregnant? Is it because they are trying to be nice or don't know what to say?

I never thought I would be annoyed by this, but people have been commenting to me lately how big I am in the form of: "wow you have gotten so big!" or "I wasn't as big as you" or "you must be due pretty soon!" I'm short and have a short torso so carry the baby very forward, so maybe that's why? (my midwife assures me I'm not any bigger than I need to be!) Also, I'm within totally normal ranges for weight gain (actually on the low end). I'm only 28 weeks and have a ways to go....and lots of growing to do yet!
