@Jennibenni: yeah i think most plastic specifically says top rack only. There are some exceptions but we just keep it all on the top

@Iced Tea: That’s so frustrating! I don’t know why new appliances sometimes seem worse at stuff like this. I don’t have any experience with stainless, but it does seem like it would work better. Just make sure it’s high quality. I had a metal strainer that rusted from water getting trapped in the lip, and the rust dribbled down and permanently stained my white plates.

@Hypatia: Yes, our dishwasher is a new Bosch with options for dispensing more or less rinse aid. I even tried max rinse aid, but that just made things oily without making the plastic dry. A lot of our plastic stuff has lips or crevices that trap water no matter what, and drying cycles just don't get plastic hot enough to evaporate all that.

I just ordered a stainless steel one to try. I also have a glass one on my list if this doesn't work. I'm positive the glass would dry well, I'm just concerned about the weight of it since my kids are so young.

@Foodnerd81: Yep! Don't feel bad, it's not really talked about a lot. Fill the reservoir until it's full (mine has a little plastic gage that rises as it is filled), make sure you screw the lid back on tight. It definitely helps get the dishes dryer and have less water spots.

And like others say, putting them on the top rack, slightly angle to help the water drain, and cracking the door after the heat cycle is complete all help too.

I’ve never put plastic on the bottom because I always thought it was only dishwasher safe on the top? I’ve just always assumed it was a universal rule.

@Lahela017: yeah we don't put any plastic on the bottom rack for that reason.

I just open the door and pull the racks out and let them air dry for a couple hours before I put them back in the cabinets. Be careful with heated dry. If your washer gets really hot it might melt the plastic on the bottom rack.

What really helps me is full jet dry + cracking the door when it’s done, then everything evaporates and gets really dry

@Foodnerd81: It does help. But I make sure my jet dry is full, use hot wash and heated dry, and all my plastic stuff still comes out wet so...

I switched to a divided tupperware container.

The bentgo one was the worst! No rinse aid in the world could get that dry the way it was shaped.

@Mrsbells: @Hypatia: I feel like a complete idiot. Hey Dry helps the stupid plastic things get dry?! Every time we unload the dishwasher we have a full drying rack of plastic dishes and bowls. But i have never used a rinse aid. Is that what it’s for?

Yeah with a rinse aid plus using the setting for heated dry we usually get things pretty dry unless we don't stack them in correctly

Are you sure you're using enough Jet Dry in your washer? It won't get them totally dry, but it puts it pretty close for me.

We had some and they got a lot more dry, but not totally dry ... I think maybe some drops around the edges of the dividers inside. It drives me crazy too with plastic! Seems like there’s always something air drying on the counter.

I am really tired of dealing with the wet plastic lunch containers after washing them in the dishwasher. The plastic ones aren't even close to dry.

I am hoping stainless steel ones would actually dry in the dishwasher. Any experience?
