We go to a few different story times, including a new one this week. Here's what each involves:

1) This one is actually held at a bakery by a local sign language school, but it's my fave so I'll include it. :) Alternating songs and stories (3 books total, but not having to sit through two books in a row is a good thing for my active kids!), at least one song where they stand up and dance around, bubbles with a song, and hand stamps on the end (the kids love this). Each week we learn a new 4-5 signs That fit with the month's theme, in addition to the signing they do with the books and the songs we sing each time.

2) This one's a library story time, but my least favorite. There's singing in the beginning (usually twinkle twinkle little star or the itsy bitsy spider), then 3-4 books all in a row. It's an alphabet theme so each week is a different letter. Then at the end there's coloring or a simple craft. Up until that point, the kids are expected to sit down and stay still which is hard for my two year olds!

3) This is the new one we tried and it was really fun. First there was a song and the kids got out little carpet squares to sit on (something about picking out their own carpet square seemed to make them more excited about sitting still through a book!) Then one book (I hear that sometimes they do two books here - depends on the length of books). Then we did an art project, then ribbon dancing while listening to music. Then the teacher got out a box of toys and the kids could play, or head back into the library to get books or do puzzles. There was a lot crammed into a 45 min class, but that actually works well for me because my kids have short attention spans and liked moving from one activity to the next.

We are going to start going to the library story hour today, it's been over a year since we've been....maybe even 2 years! I remember story and songs, and I think maybe an activity but I'm not positive on that. I'm excited to get the girls out to do something consistently this summer.
