I'm a lawyer who does civil litigation. </p> <p>Best: I can work in my PJs (mostly, unless I have meetings or court appearances or whatnot) and my schedule is super flexible. </p> <p>Worst: My entire job consists of dealing with angry people (both my own clients and the other side). And rarely can I do anything that will actually make them less angry (even winning a case). Work with people in poverty and difficult situations.</p> <p>Best: I get to make a difference for my clients! (Sometimes) It's good motivation to work hard. I have a pretty good relationship with my boss. Love working in "law for good" and not having to count billable hours.</p> <p>Worst: 1 super annoying, difficult coworker. Crappy commute. Sometimes it's emotionally taxing getting involved in peoples' lives and not being able to help. I have a lot of respect for the managing partners. I have a lot of visibility into how they make decisions and run the company. I have been given a lot of responsibility in a relatively short period of time, though I did have to prove myself to get there. And I have a lot of flexibility; there is no emphasis on face time and there is opportunity to work from home about once per week. No one cares as long as I get my job done.</p> <p>Downsides to my job: Honestly, my only real complaint is that I hate my company's travel policy. If we are traveling on the company dime, we are expected to share hotel rooms. I really value my privacy and hate having a roommate. Most of the time I can avoid this, though, because I'm often the only woman on a business trip! Also, lately I have been insanely busy so it has been hard to juggle all of my various responsibilities, but I think that is just the nature of having a challenging job.</p> <p>I used to work for huge corporations. I have been with this company for 2 years now, and it continually feels like a breath of fresh air.
