I WAH. I'm a lawyer who does civil litigation.

Best: I can work in my PJs (mostly, unless I have meetings or court appearances or whatnot) and my schedule is super flexible.

Worst: My entire job consists of dealing with angry people (both my own clients and the other side). And rarely can I do anything that will actually make them less angry (even winning a case). It's emotionally exhausting.

Attorney at nonprofit. Work with people in poverty and difficult situations.

Best: I get to make a difference for my clients! (Sometimes) It's good motivation to work hard. I have a pretty good relationship with my boss. Love working in "law for good" and not having to count billable hours.

Worst: 1 super annoying, difficult coworker. Crappy commute. Sometimes it's emotionally taxing getting involved in peoples' lives and not being able to help. It keeps me up at night.

My career has unending possibilities. However, I have to create them and find my own way. I truly have to forge my own path. I love working for myself but there is no security. I have to make everything happen!

WOHM: Contractor/Project Manager

Best part: I really like what I do, people are awesome, I love having a paycheck

Worst part: location of our home office means a long commute twice a week

SAHM:

Best part: I didn't have to be a slave to the schedule of an office, if one of us was sick, it wasn't a scramble

Worst part: isolation, monotony (for me, it wasn't the best fit due to location)

Best: I'm a problem solver. I get to use my head a lot!

Worst: Ummm... I tell people (usually pregnant women) they've just received a diagnosis of HIV/AIDS. That's actually my specialty.

WAH Event Producer
Best: Extermely flexible schedule most of the year.
Worst: Twice a year I work intense 16-18 hour days for a few weeks. Also, it gets lonely sometimes.

@ElbieKay: my company recently asked us to start sharing rooms too and I haaaate it. I'm pretty introverted and need some alone time/space to recharge.

@pui: I have a few friends who are Graphic Designers and their client stories are crazy! It's very entertaining to hear, but I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to actually deal with some of their craziness.

PR exec

Best: New, different opportunities through client accounts. I've been able to work some cool things, like the red carpet of an NBA All-Star weekend VIP party

Worst: I work in an agency, so I'm constantly tracking my billable hours and making sure I'm hitting my utilization target

Grad Student/ Teaching Assistant

Best: interacting with students, and getting paid to do what I love-read, research, and write!

Worst: balancing TAing with my own work. Grading and preparing to teach while also needing to do work myself gets really stressful sometimes. It leads to really late nights sometimes. Also, I always, always feel like I am behind. It is a perpetual state of existence for me.

@Mrs. Champagne: DH was in advertising sales for a local radio group quite a few years ago and while it was a kick @$$ cool job for perks, he got sick of having to repitch the same clients over and over after every campain finished. Exhausting!

Best: work from home and if I hit my monthly tagged I kind of slack off a bit, especially now that I'm pregnant
Worst: commission and they changed my structure, so this year I'm selling more and working more and making less. Not a happy camper over here!

Best parts of my job: I love working for a small company. I have a lot of respect for the managing partners. I have a lot of visibility into how they make decisions and run the company. I have been given a lot of responsibility in a relatively short period of time, though I did have to prove myself to get there. And I have a lot of flexibility; there is no emphasis on face time and there is opportunity to work from home about once per week. No one cares as long as I get my job done.

Downsides to my job: Honestly, my only real complaint is that I hate my company's travel policy. If we are traveling on the company dime, we are expected to share hotel rooms. I really value my privacy and hate having a roommate. Most of the time I can avoid this, though, because I'm often the only woman on a business trip! Also, lately I have been insanely busy so it has been hard to juggle all of my various responsibilities, but I think that is just the nature of having a challenging job.

I used to work for huge corporations. I have been with this company for 2 years now, and it continually feels like a breath of fresh air. It is so refreshing and I hope it lasts a long time, though we'll probably get bought out eventually.

As a SAHM:
Best: nap time (when they don't fight it) and morning cuddles, since we don't have to rush out of the house

Worse: I get EVERY poop. Mine only poop between 7 am and 5pm so, I get every poop. And, trying to keep them amused when we have to spend the whole day at home in doors.
