I'm in CT now and agree that it's a nice place to raise a family. However, the economic divide makes me really sad, even though it's a part of life in most parts of the country. Maybe it's just more pronounced in my part of the state since it's NYC suburbs territory?

I think all states have "good" and "bad" parts. I grew up in a great part of MD but on the other hand my grandma lives in a not so great part of MD!

I grew up in one of the bottom five states and we are now raising our kids in one of the top five states. Honestly, the family-friendly atmosphere was one of our biggest reasons for moving here. We really want to raise our kids in a safe, child-focused environment.

I'm not crazy about some of the factors that are used. Being in a single parent family doesn't exactly put a kid at risk. Also, religious education isn't a good factor, either.

The study in itself bugs me...I don't like to put everyone of a state into one category.

It's interesting, though. I guess it depends on your core values. What is important for some isn't important for everyone.

I live in a suburb outside of DC, on the VA side. I think it's a great place to raise a child. We have access to everything in DC and there is a lot of history in VA as well. I think there are a lot of advantages living near a big city.

Hope no one has posted this already, but I saw it this morning and thought it was interesting. It's nice to see NJ mentioned in a positive light, for once! There's a link to the real study. What do you think?
