@Little Misters Mom: 6 months. they do have a baby version as well, but i never found the originals to be too advanced, i liked the age range and the variety of people using the signs, i also enjoyed the songs. this is the baby version, i haven't used these, but they have great reviews on amazon

We started around 8 months and she picked it up that month. We really only focused on "more" so maybe that's why she grasped it so quickly. We moved on to other signs after a few months.

I just used a baby sign book with DS but got the signing time dvds for DD.

We started at 6 months and they were both around 10 months before they started signing back.

I am glad we did it - it was nice to be able to communicate before they could talk plus its super fun!

@Aandmklover: @mrs. bird: What age did you guys start using Signing Time? I just looked at the videos and they seem aimed at slightly older kids. DS is 19 weeks, so we have just used Youtube videos to learn a few basic signs (milk, mommy, etc). I try to use them as much as I can throughout the day. Would you recommend starting the videos now for exposure?

I second signing time videos. By the time my DS was 14 months he knew 35+ signs. The key is to sit with your child and sign and talk as they are in the video. Also, use the signs thought the day as much as possible during normal conversation. DH and I would always look up signs to expand his vocab.

We watch it on Netflix now (26 months old) and he'll know signs I don't know and he loves to mimic them.

Eta: We are very glad we did it and will continue with ds2 and any future children.

I am interested in teaching my baby sign language. What was your experience? When did you start and find that it started to stick? What is the best sign language book/guides? Are you glad that you did it? Thanks!
