New Smyrna Beach, FL is great but maybe a little further than you want to go? It's about 30 min south of Daytona Beach. It's very quiet, mostly condos but a few hotels, and local restaurants. Never any traffic, super chill, and a nice beautiful beach. And, if you really want to, you're within driving distance of Daytona or Orlando.

Emerald Isle, Oak Island, and Carolina Beach are all very nice beachs in south eastern NC which would be closer for you than the obx. Kid friendly, some stuff to do (esp Carolina beach which is a bit more commercialized than the other two), reasonably priced.

We are going to Outer Banks this summer for a family trip, but I really like Fripp Island and Pensacola or Perdido Key with young kiddos because the water is so calm-- hardly any waves and you feel safe taking the babies out in the ocean.

I love, love the outer banks! My family has gone almost every year since I was a toddler. If you're looking for a place that's not city-ish, it definitely applies. Almost all houses -- there are very, very few hotels -- not super crowded. We stay in Corolla, at the top of the island. My fave time is September, when it's less expensive because it's not high season, but the weather's still beautiful. I'll actually be there this September :-)

We went to the Florida panhandle last year with H and it was really nice. We stayed in a hotel, but we were very close to the water and a 5-minute drive from one of the nicer beaches in the area.

I used to vacation on Emerald Isle (smaller island in the OBX) as a kid every summer... I loved it! We got a house on the sound side so we could fish every day, and then it would be a 5-10 min walk to the other side of the island for the beach. Another vote for the Outer Banks!

Also, look into Fort Morgan. Close enough to grocery stores, restaurants, etc, but much quieter.

We had a beach house on Dauphin Island when I was growing up. It is very quiet, but it's pretty inconvenient. Not much going out to eat, and even grocery shopping is tough. We also had a place in Orange Beach. It's easy to get a condo on the beach there. Lots to do, lots of crowds. Perdido Key is close by, but a little calmer. We now prefer to vacation on 30A... Watercolor is our favorite. I grew up very near the AL coast, so I'm pretty familiar with all of it. I'm happy to answer any questions.

The Outer Banks is great if you want to stay right on the beach and want a relaxing beach vacation. They have houses you can rent to fit all different kinds of budgets. The further south you stay the less built up it is, although none of it is really that commercialized (more like the further you will have to travel for the grocery store or to go out for dinner if you don't want to cook at home). We love the OBX! It's actually where we got married

I love the Outer Banks of North Carolina. They are beautiful and very family friendly. I am from North Carolina so we went there every few years when I was a child, and I have been a few times as an adult also.

My dad used to live on Dauphin Island. It was very quiet without much to do. Relaxing yes, but I like having some stuff to do near by. Not sure how it's changed recently.

We went to Pensacola, FL when our son was a baby. It was nice and I was as relaxed as I could be with a baby! Orange Beach or Gulf Shores, AL are also popular favorites.

We went to Perdido Key (Pensacola) last year and rented a condo on the beach through VRBO. It was amazing. We were right next to Orange Beach/Gulf Shores AL. But Perdido Key is not commercialized like those.

We are talking about taking a beach vacation this year with our then 2 year old and 3 month old. We're located in the midwest and would prefer to drive so we've talked about SC or AL but are open to anywhere in between.

Ideally, I'd like an area that's not too commercialized. The idea of a house footsteps from the beach without being tooo expensive really appeals to me. I've heard Dauphin Island, AL is this way but was wondering what else is out there.
