@merriment: yes!! This book was so, so good. Best fiction I've read in a long time.

Best nonfiction: Say Nothing, which is about the Troubles in Northern Ireland. I didn't expect to love it like I did, but it was incredible.

@wrkbrk: I always consider When Breath Becomes Air, and I first heard about it on Cup of Joe a few years ago, but I’m afraid it will be too depressing. Thoughts?

@muffinsmuffins: the medical book sounds interesting. I love the diagnosis column.
I recently read Simon Versus the Homosapien Agenda. It was a really good easy read. I also highly recommend The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It's one of those books that I stayed up way too late to finish reading.

@ChitownRo: yes! I'm about 2/3 of the way through, and it's so good. Though, I have to say, depending on your politics, also very depressing because she and their whole family are such a stark contrast to the horrible-ness currently in the white house.

@wrkbrk: I LOVED ‘when breath becomes air’. So good. You might also like ‘Every patient tells a story’ about weird medical diagnoses. There’s a column in the NYT called Diagnosis written by the same author I believe. Being Mortal is also on my list! Love medical memoir type books!

@lamariniere: @Silva: I really want to get into this series but I’ve had trouble with the first bit of ‘Cuckoos Calling’...does it get better if I stick with it?! I’ve checked it out of the library twice now and couldn’t get much past when he grabs her boob to stop her falling down the stairs ha it seemed kinda cheesy? But I hear everyone loving the books so much!

@lamariniere: there are 6 books in the Dublin Murder Squad series- I think the first one is called In the Woods. I tore through them all, there are definitely ones I liked more than others
Jane Harper is another great author to check out if you like what I snobbily call “literary mystery/thriller” ;) (well written, psychologically/character driven)

@josina: I loved What Alice Forgot too. I first read it while extremely mad at DH (with good reason), and it made me stop and rethink my anger and my approach to our disagreement a little. Re-read it recently, and enjoyed it just as much because now I was focusing more on all the other stories in the book.
