Ooh, thanks guys! And yes, I thought I remembered hearing that about Baby Wise, good to know!
Thinking Happiest Baby might end up on my Kindle this week.

@Adira: My doula ordered me that book and it should arrive this week! I'm glad to hear that it worked for someone!

I like Baby 411. It's very comprehensive! I don't advocate for Baby Wise at all. Our pediatrician strongly discourages the practices described in that book.

@cmomma17: we did that too!

I think the best advice for the newborn period is "just get through it." ;)

Happiest Baby was definitely helpful

I really liked Your Self-Confident Baby which really is more of a parenting philosophy than just newborn care

Baby Wise wasn't for me, it was all, schedule your baby's feedings! Don't feed on demand!

I like The Baby Book, it's like an encyclopedia and we consult it all the time when we think Maddy is doing something weird :)

I've only read Secrets of the Baby Whisperer and it taught about the EASY method, which was soooooooooo helpful. It also gave tips for how to figure out WHY your baby is crying and what to try. Definitely worth reading! And getting Xander into the EASY routine was a life-saver!!!

Ok I didn't read it when LO was a newborn but hands down, "Becoming the Parent You Want To Be". It has a section about disequilibrium that I SO needed to read when pregnant and when in the newborn stages.

Yes watch the happiest baby video. I personally really loved the Super Nanny parenting book. Kind of a middle of the road parenting. But she definitely pointed out the bad things such as not getting enough sleep.

@redsmarties: Just watch the happiest baby on the block video. Quicker than reading, and I thought it was really great. Wish I had watched it prior to the baby arriving!

I'm a little overwhelmed with the sheer number of books out there for parents of newborns. I've heard great things about Happiest Baby on the Block, Baby Wise, the No-Cry Sleep Solution, and about a million others (not *just* pertaining to sleep).

Do you have any recommendations? What is the best book you read?
