@Ree723: installing the seat is really easy, you can see the beltpath and you can just jam it in there. I found we didn't need the belt extender.

I also had/have the Brica transporter. I highly recommned practicing installing and uninstalling, I get anxious when I have to do those things under pressure, and you need to know where you're threading!

Recently flew with my 21 month old (at the time) and bought her a seat. We took our Diono Radian RXT (very heavy, but my husband was with me so I didn't have to deal with it and DD alone). We did have the Go Go Babyz to get through the airport and it was GREAT! However, you have to take the seat off of it to go through security, which is difficult (with 2 kids). We put DD rf in her seat (window seat, because carseats can't block anyone in). It was tight but I still feel strongly about keeping her rf. Oh, and if you rf- they might say that regulations state that it has to be ff but that isn't true- the airplane seat has to be ff, not the carseat. I had that FAA regulation pulled up on my phone just in case someone challenged me, which they did.

One major issue we had on the first leg of our flight was that we didn't get a seatbelt extender to use with carseat. So when it came time to get off plane at our destination, we couldn't get the seat out. The straps got tightened so that the buckle was IN the carseat and my husband couldn't get it out. Plus the seatbelt for that particular seat had a pin in it where you couldn't release the straps, so it ended up taking my husband and maintenance 30 minutes to get seat out. It was kind of a perfect storm and I don't expect anything like that to happen to you, but maybe you should look into a seat belt extender when putting seat in.

Surely someone will help you install/un-install- seems like it's going to be difficult with a 5 month old and 24 month old- good luck!! :goodluck:

Thanks all! I've ordered the Cosco Scenera and am debating between the Go Go Babyz Mini and the Brica model roller attachment. I definitely need something DD1 can sit in and be rolled along as gate checking a pram is unfortunately not an option.

A bit disappointing to hear that I will likely receive zero help from the FAs, but that's been my experience on all the other flights I've taken with my LOs so I wasn't really expecting much different. Of course I've never flown solo with my baby, much less two of them, so I was hoping they might be a bit more accommodating but maybe not. Anyway, I am glad to hear that they have to accommodate the car seat since DD1 has a purchased seat; I was worried they would say that we can't bring it on for whatever reason, but I'm glad to hear that will not be an issue!

We chose the Combi Cocorro specifically because we knew we'd be using it for travel. It's one of the lightest weight convertibles out there, so it is great for lugging. :)

I bought the combi corroco specifically for this purpose. I needed another covertible seat anyways for our other car and it is the most lightweight. I haven't used it yet on an airplane though!

We recently flew with our then-10 month old, and we bought an Evenflo SureRide convertible. I had a gift card, so it was only like 50$.

1. We used a bungee cord to secure it to our smaller rolling suitcase. That worked great. It was definitely too wide to roll down the aisle. DH had to carry it over his head.

2. Yes it fit just fine. We installed it FF, and no issues. I believe you are supposed to install it in a window seat so it does not impede anyone's exit, but I'm not sure if they will automatically give you one.

3. Nope and nope. As long as your toddler has a ticket, you should not have a problem. We did have 2 different flight attendants check our seat to make sure it was FAA compliant, so be prepared for that.

4. We got zero help from the flight crew, but since you are alone, someone may take pity on you! We definitely got more sympathetic looks from passengers, so maybe someone nearby can help. It was not hard at all to install.

We used the Cosco scenera, I paid $35 for it so I didn't feel badly if it didn't work out.

1. & 2. We flew with a Britax on a transatlantic United flight. Like @brownie: said, it didn't fit through the aisle and my husband carried it. We installed it FF, I think there simply wasn't enough room to RF it and I think that would have been uncomfortable in any case for my son. He did sleep almost the whole flight in it though, so that was great! we had a Britax roller attachment but it was pretty crappy. It was definitely designed just for rolling the seat and not having a child sit in it and rolling at the same time. People seem to like the GoGo Babyz attachment, but I have never tried it. Since we traveled as 3, we did have a window, but I don't think the car seat guarantees a window. Maybe call to check on that one.

3. as for notifying the airline you are brining on a car seat, I don't think you need to as long as there is a purchased ticket for your DD. I think it just had to be an FAA approved seat.

4. I wouldn't rely on the flight crew to help you install it...that sounds like a liability they probably wouldn't risk. Maybe they could help with the kiddos while you install, but again, my experience with flight crews is that they don't help with children.

Honestly, if I were in your shoes I would not take the car seat since you will already be juggling so much. Maybe bring an extra small pillow instead so that your DD can try to be more comfortable in the seat?

I just flew with my 3 year old and we used a car seat. I have a Britax with the bag. I was NOT able to roll it down the aisle of the plane. I had to carry it. On the first flight another customer helped me. The FA helped take it out of the plane. I went during family seating and just waited until the last person out of the plane.

I will look but someone did something recently about the rules of flying with a car seat but going international is different. Check the rules of the company. But in the US (to the US) they MUST accommodate a car seat in forward or rear facing.

I'm travelling on an overnight international flight (8 hours) in a few weeks with my 24 month old and 5 month old, solo. My toddler has her own seat and the baby will be a lap infant. We're flying American Airlines and are not likely to get a bassinet seat, and as we're flying on a very busy route at the height of tourist season, there are not likely to be many, if any, empty seats on the plane.

To make my life easier, I've decided to purchase a car seat for my toddler in the hopes that she will sleep in there easier than she would trying to sit in a normal airplane seat. Despite the many, many long haul flights we've taken with babies. I have yet to fly with a car seat, so this is a whole new experience for me!

I'm looking at buying the Cosco Scenera as it is small enough to comfortably fit in the seat (I think!), and very cheap - the seat won't comply with UK requirements so this seat will be exclusively for plane travel, hence not wanting to spend much money; however, I am open to other suggestions!

So, if you've flown with a car seat before, can you answer some or all of the questions below and/or tell me about your experience?

1. Did you buy a roller attachment to roll your car seat through the airport? Were you able to roll it down the aisle or was it too wide? I'm ideally looking to push my toddler in the seat whilst wearing the infant and carrying our carry-on on my back.

2. Did the seat fit into plane seat comfortably enough? Does a car seat automatically mean you get a window seat (I hope?)

3. Did you have to call the airlines ahead of time to let them know? Do they have the right to deny the use of an FAA approved seat when a ticket has been purchased for the toddler who would be using the seat?

4. Logistically, how difficult will it be to set it up on the seat with an infant strapped to my chest in the Ergo and a 24 month old crawling all over the place? Have you found the flight crew to be helpful in this regard?

Any other suggestions or sharing of experiences would be so helpful! Thanks!
