I pretty much lived on carbs until my m/s subsided at 24 weeks. Specifically animal crackers. When I did eat other things, they were protein heavy.

For me it's less about blandness and more about consistency. I am better with crispy and crunchy things that spend little time in the mouth. So tonight I ate a bunch of Doritos and pretzels. Neither are nutritious but I liked them. :)

Broccoli soup is another favorite. I craved it last pregnancy too!

If you want a bubbly drink without the sugar, sparkling water is awesome. DH bought me a case of Perrier at Sam's and it's the best.

If you can get some peanut butter and cheese in to your diet, that's pretty healthy. I can also do apples. That's about it!! Other than that, bland carbs. Your baby will get what they need from your body, so don't worry too much about nutrition. I was really freaked out at week 5/6 when I started to feel awful and nothing healthy sounded good. Now, still feeling awful at almost week 15, well, I really could care less what i eat as long as I do. Baby will be alright- I mainly hurt myself with poor eating habits.

Have you tried papaya enzyme?

I had horrendous morning sickness and it was the only thing that worked. I was basically chewing it all day long.

I definitely did not eat healthy. I felt like crap the first 16 weeks and for me it just became about survival - what can I eat that won't make me sick. It ended up being lots of carbs - crackers, chips, french fries and carbonated beverages.

@tororojo: Subway doesn't appeal to me not pregnant-- it's the smell of the bread in the stores somehow!

I think it is clear though-- more protein!

I just remembered--I went to Subway pretty often in the first tri and got the Veggie Delite sub, which was pretty good and you can load it up with veggies! Not sure if that will appeal to you, but if so you'll get some nutrition in.

@foodnerd, I found that a high protein lunch really did it for me. Soups, no, but sandwiches really seemed to settle nice and heavy and hold me over. So i'm not surprised if the meatball sub is feeling good for you :)

Another vote for eggs and egg sandwiches. The more protein I could get in the better I felt. I did not eat many vegetables in weeks 6-9. Maybe you could add some spinach to the eggs as a way to get some greens in? I just couldn't really bring myself to cook.

@blackbird: Hmm.. i thought I was just feeling better in the afternoon, maybe it is the big meatball sub I've been having for lunch. I need to get more PB-- we only have Jif, which I usually like, but it seems way too sweet. I usually have the natural kind which sounds better.

Adding lemon to water really helps

I also made a lot of smoothies, with yogurt, banana and strawberries and any other fruit

I lived on fried egg and cheese sandwiches and jimmy john's roast beef sandwiches. Ginger ale and sprite was always good, too. Rice and chicken didn't seem to bother me...I hate hawaiian meatballs and rice a few days. I always felt 10x better after a heavier lunch.

Peanut butter sandwiches...one of the only things I could eat through my whole pregnancy.

ETA: Not the healthiest thing, but lots of protein!

At 6 weeks, I'm in the stage where I feel perpetually hung over. I know it can, and probably will, get much worse, but right now I'm ok and as long as I eat, I only feel a little bit nauseous. The problem is, a lot of food turns my stomach. I'd like to eat as healthy and varied a diet now while I can, since I fully expect to be stuck with pure carbs pretty soon.

So any advice on easy foods that have some nutritional benefit and aren't likely to turn my stomach? Especially easy lunch options. So far, meatball subs, egg sandwich, and ginger ale are tasty but not super healthy. What did you live on in the first trimester?
