I wasn't allowed to eat anything, and that was fine- I didn't want to anyhow.
I did drink some juice, and I went through like two huge bags of lifesavers.

Fruit salad sounds awesome, I didn't even think of that. I also think a large part of why I didn't want to eat was that I was worried about the food coming up again.

Thanks guys! They've said that I might not feel like eating, but better safe than sorry. I know one friend who said she was literally begging for food during her labor and was so angry that she wasn't allowed to eat! She ordered a pizza to the recovery room :)
Especially for the 2nd stage of labor, my midwife recommended stuff that was easy to grab bites of and that had high water content (like a nice fruit salad or cucumber) because it was refreshing. And of course plenty of water to stay hydrated.

I packed a huge bag of food for labor- crackers, yogurt, trail mix, gatorade, etc. And didn't eat any of it until the next day.

I didn't really want to eat at all the day I went into labor, but I made myself eat a few things on the way to the hospital, figuring I didn't know when I would get the chance again. I threw it all up around 8cm- the nurses said that happens a lot during transition. I ended up having a very fast labor, water broke at 2:15pm, he was out by 9:50pm- so I never had the chance to really get hungry.

The gatorade and peanut butter and cheese crackers ended up being my favorite things to eat in between meals- I was starving/thirsty all the time after labor.

I didn't want to eat anything, I had packed dried fruit, nuts, chocolate, hard candy and granola, but none of it was appealing during labor. We were making lunch when we called the midwives, so we didn't even eat lunch that day.

My doula fixed me up an english muffin with melted cheese and some orange slices, seemed to do the job and gave me a little more energy. Also in the earlier stages I ate some pasta and cheeze it party mix :)

All I had was ice chips and gatorade. My hubs ate all the food that was brought to me - I had ZERO appetite.

My most recent labor went so fast (6 hrs from start to finish) that I didn't have time to eat that much. But I did have lots of water and coconut water whenever I could. If you drink a lot though, be sure to pee in between contractions to keep your bladder empty. You're more likely to progress with an empty bladder.

I had pizza in early labor, but I ended up throwing up later (which actually made me feel good at the time). I also had cranberry juice but I really only wanted water during most of the labor.

LOTS of water and other things to stay hydrated!

One mom ate lots of banana's...

I think I want some protein & cereal bars... something I can easily eat but are good fillers.

I haven't gone through labor yet--but my birthing center recommends soups, bread, popsicles, yogurt, jello, fruits, honey sticks, crackers. Also lots of water, coconut water, Gatorade.

I know lots of women aren't allowed to eat during labor, but for those of you that did...
What foods worked well for you?
Was anything particularly tasty/refreshing?

I'm trying to plan what I'll bring with me (they actually encourage women to eat throughout labour here in the UK) and am looking for ideas.
