@ElbieKay: thanks! I’ll check them out.

@Ms.Mermaid: good idea about the lactation consultation. I never thought to ask about pumping since I was just getting the hang of BF the first time around. The freemie cups look awesome. I wonder if they work with the spectra?

I enjoyed the Freemie cups for hands-free. I was only an occasional pumper, but it was great that I could quickly pull the tubing and get up to take care of something without undoing the whole setup or presenting myself with hanging bottles! I just connected them to a pump I already had.

I like my Spectra pump a lot. I have both the kindred bravely sublime hands free bra and the simple wishes bra and they are both good. The simple wishes one goes over your bra and the kindred bravely one you wear as a bra but it also clips down for nursing.

For flange fit, I recommend asking the LC in the hospital - bring your pump so they can see it work and they’ll tell you if it’s the right fit.

I just ordered a set of Pumpin Pals and I think I’m going to get a set of Freemies collection cups for pumping in the car.

I like the PumpinPals flanges. Way more comfortable than the Medela ones.

@jennlin821: interesting! I had no idea. Maybe the flanges I was using were too small?!! A midwife told me once I had large/“prominent” nipples (tmi ?!!) so breastfeeding would be easy for me. But I just assumed small boobs= small flange. I’ll have to look up the medela measurement guide. Thanks!

A note about fit- boob size has nothing to do with nipple size! I was a size C before pregnancy, and a D while breastfeeding, but I had trouble finding flanges that were small enough for my apparently tiny nipples!
I had a Medela, so I followed their directions on how to measure for size.

As for hands free pumping, a pumping bra is your best bet, but it didn’t work for me. I got the best production doing one breadt at a time, holding the flange in one hand and massaging with the other. It took a while to figure out all the different variables. Like my nipples point upward, so I had to sit hunched over to get the milk to flow down instead of back into the flange

Good luck!

@codeitall: thank you! What size flanges did you get if you don’t mind me asking? I don’t even know how to measure myself for that?!

Honestly I don't know much about those pumps, but my recommendations for hands-free is to get good fitting flanges and a pumping bra. I also have small boobs (and post-nursing tiny boobs) The pumping bra made the biggest difference for me and let me do all my work like normal. One like this should do the trick:

I’m looking for pump recommendations! I had the medela PISA last time and I didn’t love it

I’ll mostly be pumping at my desk at work so I want to try hands free. I do have an outlet nearby and I will probably just leave the pump at work so portability isn’t much of a issue.

Also I have small boobs  and I hated pumping the first time around because I never got a good fit . I always got more production with the manual pump but that’s not a good option for me

Looks like my insurance will cover Spectra 2, Evenflo Deluxe, Ameda Finesse, and Lanisloh Pro (in addition to Medela PISA)

Thanks!
