@Thehistoryofus: I am too, but I think it also comes with a coupon. It's a 90-minute workshop and the store is closed all day Sundays just to run all these workshops back-to-back, so I guess they have to charge something.

@pastemoo: Good to hear another vote of confidence! We haven't ruled out anything yet :)

@JoJoGirl: Great! I am really surprised that they are charging $10/couple to attend. All of the CD workshops here are free and usually they have a 10% off coupon for attending (obviously they want you to buy their products). Seeing the diapers in person is really valuable.

I also love gDiapers but DS didn't sleep last night so I can't give them their fair due.
DS leaks out of almost every kind of diaper but in the end gDiapers worked best for us (but not overnight--boo).

@Thehistoryofus: Good to know, thank you! We found an almost-free cloth diapering workshop at a cloth diaper store nearby ($10 per couple) so are going to that Jan 20th to learn all the ins-and-outs I haven't learned on here the last couple of days. But this has really opened my eyes to how much cheaper and easier this can be than we had originally thought! Our first motivation was not adding to landfills but seeing the cheapness, non-diaper-rash, better fit, less blowouts, in addition to that, it just makes too much sense :)

One thing I would caution about Pockets is that I prefer natural inserts because the microfiber inserts that come with a lot of pockets get stinky and clogged quickly.

@Thehistoryofus: I'm pretty sure this is what we are going to do, so thank you!! (Pockets or AIOs with the bioliner for solid poos). The flushable/biodegradeable/cheap bioliner changed the game for us.

@thehistoryofus, they cited "sanitary reasons" for not allowing all cloth diapers. Even though the state says they can use them. Whatever we choose, I plan on taking a diaper IN and actually showing them. I know when I had mentioned cloth diapers to my mom, she got visions of pins and folding and messy stuff.

@blackbird: I am curious to hear why daycares would want the hybrid disposables versus the all cloth? I don't see how its more work for them as long as the diaper is already assembled (for example our daycare wouldn't do prefolds or anything like that).

You should definitely try different brands and see what fits best for your little one. Mine is long and skinny and I've heard Grovias are good for long and skinny. I don't know how everything would work if the legs are thicker. I got some cheap gDiaps to try (thus not liking them) and really at the beginning collected diapers to try (thus the Flip). Get one or two of each brand and see how they work for you. You can always resell them if it doesn't work out.

@JoJoGirl: The snap in cloth isn't hard at all. Daycare prefers it because she knows the cloth won't move around. We prefer the lay in method (either a gCloth or a prefold) ourselves cause they are cheaper. Daycare will also put a sposie insert on around the time he usually poops so she can toss it. We have never used the liners before. I just spray out all of the poop when I get home (I love my diaper sprayer).

For preschool, we send presnapped in Grovia's for them to put on him.

@Thehistoryofus: Ooh - so do you send her to daycare with like 4-5 pre-stuffed pocket diapers with a liner inside? I thought you use Grovia - those aren't pockets though, right? Yeah, we definitely need to see them demonstrated in person. There's a CD store nearby so we need to get to it soon.

@sandy: OH okay, got it! Yes, we saw a video of disposables vs. biodegradeable inserts after they'd been buried for 6 months and hands down we are not doing disposables. But the bio flushables and regular cloth are both options for us.

Our daycare was VERY on board with using these. We use a pocket diaper that is all set and ready to go and they just lay a liner in it. At the next diaper change they throw the liner and any poo away and snap on a fresh diaper.

Also, we use coconut oil as a CD safe diaper creme and love it.

I would really recommend looking at diapers in person before you invest. I was curious about Gdiapers but seeing them compared to Grovia in person there was no comparison.

@JoJoGirl: so when she wasn't eating solids and she ha breastfed poo I could just throw the cloths in the wash bc breastfed poo is water soluable. Then she started solids at 6 months and her poos were pretty solid which was super easy clean up but then maybe a month or two later her poos went back to almost being like newborn poo (occasionally a solid one but mostly not)...so I stopped using cloths bc it was a pain for me. Also, cost is not the most important thing for me...I feel a lot of guilt filling landfills with disposable diapers...especially cb it takes so long to break down. I love the flushables so much...she sleeps 12+ hours at night and has never had a leak. We even used them when we had to take a last minute trip from Seattle to Alabama...so easy. Also my LO may just be lucky bc she has never had diaper rash (and our family has very sensitive skin)

@JoJoGirl: I have cloth too and used them a lot when LO was younger bc she just sent through diapers more frequently. Honestly the reason I started using mostly flushables is bc my LO poos a lot and even though she eats 3 large meals of solids and 2 snacks her poos are not always so solid. So around 10 months I started pretty much always using flushables...I used to get them at diapers.com bc they always had 20% off coupons but that ended so now I used subscribe and save from amazon. I plan to use cloth more regularly when her poos change (she's still nursing 3 times a day)...especially as we approach potty training I want to use cloth bc I heard it helps since the baby can feel the wetness more.

@Thehistoryofus: Oookaay good to know. I thought that poos would go right through the dryer sheet type liner until they are eating solids, I guess I'm wrong about that! Hm yeah that does sound like a good alternative, although I don't know if daycares would be on board. We didn't actually see them in person yet - we just watched a bunch of YouTubes.

@sandy: I'm happy to see at least one good review of them! :) Although it makes sense what @Thehistoryofus: is saying about them being so much more expensive. Do you exclusively use flushables or the cloth inserts too?

@JoJoGirl: I don't really understand why others think the snap in liner is difficult. It's not a problem at all for me. Like you said sometimes a little poo will get on the liner but not the outer pant so I just snap out the liner and snap in a new one and get to reuse the outer pant. I just wash the liners in a laundry bag wish my regular wash and air dry. I bought 2 extra pack of liners bc that's what usually ends up dirty. It's so convenient and easy. Maybe people have a difficult time setting up their diaper station (I keep my flushables and liners in the bathroom). It can sound complicated but it's sooooo easy. I think the blog that helped the most was joyfulabode. I've never had fit issues (I watched the videos on YouTube and the gdiaper website). My LO is almost 14 months and we've used gdiapers since she was about 2 months..maybe her body was just made for them. She is still in the medium gpants. I think we've had a handful of blowouts whereas my neighbor has blowouts weekly (she uses disposables).

@JoJoGirl: what we use is a grovia shell with a snap in cloth soaker. On top of the soaker we put a liner which is like a dryer sheet. It's thin so liquids go through to the diaper but it catches solids. They work great.

Where did you do a demo? I think Charlie bananas are also a hybrid that can be used with disposable or cloth inserts.

@Thehistoryofus: Okay - maybe I'm confused. Is the liner something that goes over the disposable inserts? The demos I watched of both gDiapers and Grovias show a shell and an insert and that's it - with cloth inserts, you have to use the swish stick to wipe off the poo and break it up in the toilet before throwing anything in the wash. I saw gDiapers offers a liner (like, a cheese cloth) that you can use over the inserts once the poos turn solid but that might not be for like a year. So what am I missing? With Grovia cloth is there another layer I'm missing that are disposable?

@JoJoGirl: It may be a bit intimidating but its totally doable! I WOHM full time. Our daycare does cloth and with the liners we don't handle the poo (the liner and the poo get thrown out). The liners are about $0.02 a piece. We just dump the diapers in the wash every other day.

I didn't want the disposable inserts because you kinda have the worst of both worlds. They are often almost $0.50 a piece (a normal disposable diaper is around $0.20-$0.25 a piece) and you still have to wash the shell!!

I use the Grovia Hybrids with the cloth snap in soakers . I hated them with a passion and stopped using them when LO was breastfed because poops weren't contained well. I started using them again recently because she now has solid poops and clean up is a lot easier.

I have only used the disposable Grovia inserts a few times...they are ok. I prefer using disposable diapers when I need the convenience...they are cheaper!

@Thehistoryofus: I think we're both a little hesitant to be manhandling poo - maybe my image of the washable inserts is wrong, but the idea of relying on cloth especially when we're out, dealing with daycare, dealing with the wetbag, etc seems a bit intimidating!

I think Brownie was talking about the GroVia snap in cloth soakers.

I guess I would question why you are only doing disposable inserts? You still will need to wash the shells and so throwing in the washable inserts isn't that hard. We use throw away GroVia liners that are much cheaper than disposable inserts but it catches any solids and then we just wash the diapers.

I don't want to vote and mess up the results since I don't use disposable inserts but I did want to chime in and say that I love the way my Grovia fits (with their snap in inserts) my little one. I tried G diapers when she was a baby (17 months now) but I couldn't ever get a good fit although I loved the design of them. Also, I was still so new at CDing that it wouldn't be fair to blame a poor fit all on the diapers and not me. Also, from what I have read, I would strongly consider Flips with disposable inserts also. I have used our flips with our g-diaper inserts a few times and it has worked out nicely.

You aren't going to know what works for you until your baby gets here so I would just suggest buying a couple of each cover that you are considering and see what fits your LO best. I believe that you can use the different inserts in different covers so you can mix and match to find the best combo. Also, keep in mind that what works the best at month two, won't necessarily be the best diaper at month six. All the diapers I hated during the newborn stage are now my favorite.

@blackbird: HAHAH i didn't know you guys were considering anything other than disposables!! First a doula, now this ;)

I've been reading paddedtushstats.com and it's helpful. The Grovias do tend to fare better overall so I'm happy to hear from people who like the gs. I wonder if we need to just go to a store nearby and check them out and get some feedback from someone who sells these things to moms.
