@MUI831: I am not so particular! I go for anything that is solid all the way through like a dum dum or a disc shaped lolly although I do keep an eye on things and sometimes when my daughter was smaller I would take it away when it was getting small and I thought the candy might detach.

@MUI831: I am scared of them since they are round (that's probably just me being neurotic though). I give her these from YumEarth: http://www.amazon.com/YumEarth-Organic-Lollipops-8-5-Ounce/dp/B008CC8XAW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1402346250&sr=8-1&keywords=organic+lollipops

I've never tried any others though.

Silly questions but what kind of lollipops work best? I honestly can't remember the last time I had one so not sure if there are better ones out there. Just the dum dums?

@MUI831: it's so impossible to predict. I did that on my last outbound flight and she stayed up the whole time. I changed it so the return flight would be after nap, and that backfired, maybe even moreso - she was energetic and wanted to RUN! Having to sit made her freak out. My next flight with her is a redeye...way after her bedtime, so that should be interesting.

@mamimami: cheap enough to be worth a try and it can double as a bath toy so I figured why not? Got it in the mail and the description is spot on. Haven't tried it with her because want it to be novel but I will try to report back.

Totally following as we leave a week from Saturday! We are hedging our bets with an entire season of Daniel Tiger on the tablet. I bought stickers that are various sports themes as he's into balls (my inner 13 yo boy always giggles when I say that) and I have a sort of water doodle thing from M&D. There will be snacks galore. We purposely scheduled the flight during his nap but I'm hoping it doesn't backfire on us.

In the past we had luck with painter's tape- we stuck it places, she stuck it places, fun was had by all and it is easier and cheaper than stickers for the younger babies. She is two, now, though, so I got re-stickable stickers that go on animal scenes, finger puppets and we are trying this for the first time: http://www.amazon.com/Lauri-2116-Toddler-Tote/dp/B00006JBKT

@78h2o: @lizzywiz: Yes, lollipops are amazing. Just be sure to bring a lot of wipes depending on how much your kid slobbers hahaha. But when I traveled with this pair last year, it was all lollies all the time. Want to cry? Have a lolly. Trying to touch stuff? Have a lolly. Going stir crazy? LOLLY. It works hahaha and like @lizzywiz says, it keeps them distracted for long periods of time.

@blackbird: yeah, I'm really nervous about our next flight as well. My LO does not like to sit still and does not sleep on me.

Honestly, last time I flew with her, I had to work super hard to keep her seated, and even then she still tantrumed much of the time.

I brought: Lift the flap books, crayons, stickers, ipad, magna-doodle, magnetic hinge M&D puzzle (don't recommend it, we lost a piece), stacking cups, wind up toys, and snacks.

ETA: I also brought a magnetic fishing game... that did keep her busy for awhile.

@mamimami: I am totally bringing lollipops next trip... I am not ashamed to use them in emergencies. I also think I might bring some kind of activity, like a piece of paper with holes punched into it and a string to thread through (but huge holes, since she's only 1.5) - she is very determined and will spend a long time on things like that.

Ooooo yes.....we're flying with E next month (16 months old) and I am having major anxiety over a 3 hour flight. She doesn't sleep in our arms and is just going to want to get down and harass everyone! And we don't have an ipad. Cue freak out.

My son likes magnetic play sets, they come in a tin and all the pieces stick to the tin and you can make different variations of things, current favorite is a set of construction vehicles.

I also am looking at some "board games" like matching and sorting. I also bought some "tell your own story" story cards, he's just getting into them now.

My son's favorite activity is playdough, but I have never brought it on a flight. I haven't found any information if it's even allowed, sealed, of course.

I've seen a lot of boards lately about air travel with little kids so I thought I'd start one where we can all share our best in-flight entertainment options for a range of ages.

I'll start -- for my 20 m.o. AND my 3.5 y.o.:
- Stickers
- Books (more for the little one to page through)
- Nabi/iPad (more for the older one)
- crayons/coloring books
- Crayola color wonder markers/books
- Snacks, snacks and more snacks and especially...
- LOLLYPOPS! I obviously care about my kids and their sugar intake but these are LIFESAVERS and solve a world of problems.

I will be flying next week ALONE with my two kids so I look forward to hearing your secrets for hours of fun that don't involve moving LOL.
