I agree about the K'tan not being supportive enough. But Wrapsody baby wraps are pretty much the cheapest and they are SUPER awesome.

I NORMALLY wouldn't recommend any infantino products just because they sell a lot of "crotch danglers" but they have a really inexpensive mei tai that is perfectly safe and ergonomic. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005C9ODQ6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1373299413&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX112_SY192

@MarieJ: I don't think a K'tan would be comfy for a baby of that size or the wearer in any position. It's too stretchy to be supportive for lengthy carries. My LO is 14 months old and about 1 lb heavier than yours, and there's no way I would wear her for an entire shower in a stretchy wrap. My only other advice is to not wait until the shower to try it. There's a very good chance she will not be a fan if she's never been worn before.

@MarieJ: I'd order from Amazon - free returns on baby stuff :) I think a k'tan wouldn't be comfortable with that old of a baby. We have a boba & ergo and like both of them. My marshalls had ergos for $60!

@MarieJ: not sure what your local Craigslist is like but there are all types of baby carriers on mine all the time and you can usually pick them up ASAP and at half price (used of course). I got my Ktan from another local mom there and it looks brand new after washing and it was half price so I don't feel too bad if I don't use it as much. Or I can resell it for the same price.

@MarieJ: oh, p.s. we also do have an ergo--we got the boba air because while we really like the ergo (very comfortable and secure), it's HOT here and needed something more lightweight for summer. i recommended the boba air if you wanted something less expensive and weren't planning on babywearing a ton. let us know what you decide!

@edelweiss: thanks for that!

@littlebittyhouse: I don't have a price range per say, but I kind of want to keep it below $70 since its specifically just for this shower and it probably won't be used much more after this. I'll look at the mei tai as well, thanks!

@MarieJ: What is your price range? At 8mo I think you might do better with something a little more structured or a ring sling. - esp. if your LO is not used to being worn. We've always worn our LO and my carrier preference has changed over the year. I was a die hard moby fan until about 5 months when he got too wiggly.

Since then I switch between a woven wrap and our Ergo. While the Ergo is not inexpensive I really do think it is a great investment. We use it for errands, shopping, parties and when he is being fussy and wants to be held or needs a break from being overstimulated.

While I don't have experience with them, a mei tai might be a good option for you too.

LO is 5.5 months and probably about 16 lbs--i have the k'tan in x-small (i'm 5'2") and i like it for short periods of time, like around the apartment or a walk with the dogs. since the material is a little stretchy, i have found that the bigger LO gets, the more it stretches during a wearing--not to the point that he's falling out or anything, but not as sturdy as other carriers like the ergo, boba or beco.

since you're going to be at a shower and not doing a lot of walking, i think the k'tan is a good option.

we also just got the boba air, a lightweight and less expensive ($65) version of the original boba, and have liked it. if you want a carrier that you'll be able to use more in the long run, i would say look into the boba air (or maybe the lightweight bjorn version), but if you are going to use the carrier infrequently and/or for short periods of time, the k'tan should be great.

I haven't used my k'tan yet, but most people seem to think it works best for younger, smaller babies, so I'm not sure how comfortable it would be for an 8 month old. For a bigger baby people seem to like the more structured carriers, like an Ergo, but of course, those are more expensive.

Like I said, I haven't actually worn a baby yet, so I can't offer very good advice other than what I read on here and on the internet!

I'm hosting a bridal shower this weekend for a friend and I'll have dd. The easiest option is obviously to wear her. Any recommendations on a good, inexpensive carrier? Bonus if I can get it in a store vs online.

I was looking at the baby K'tan. Anyone have it? How do I know what size to get? I was thinking small. I'm 5'8, 133 lbs.

Dd is one week shy of 8 months and 17.5 lbs.

Thanks in advance!
