@Mae: once you get used to taking it off and putting it back together, it's not that bad. But crumbs and stuff DO get caught in the swivel thing and I need to take a toothpick to it every few weeks. And I do have an exceptionally messy eater. So my vote is that it serves a specific purpose but it could be better.

we used this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Healthy-Care-Deluxe-Booster/dp/B00KA8I58G/ref=pd_cp_ba_2

i liked that it attached to one of our existing dining chairs so didn't take up extra space, and is easy to clean.

@Emsmems: i try this but she hits her head SO hard i almost can't not jump/look at her.

@Foodnerd81: That's the one i was looking at that people said was annoying to clean! still seems like it might be a decent solution.

@kiddosc: It's been going on for weeks. I'm just getting sick of it now.

Mrs.Tal dropped off her high-backed but foam(ish) high chair this afternoon so I'm going to try that first and see if a softer back might solve the problem (if not the head banging, than the amount to which it drives me nuts... lol)

Both of our guys love the one that @Foodnerd81: posted. But it is kind of a pain to clean and it doesn't fit on all tables.

We have a Stokke Tripp Trapp, it's pricey, but it can be used for years. If not, the Ikea Antilop is very cheap with a low back.

I would probably just wait this one out. I wouldn't want to spend a ton on a new highchair for a problem that will probably stop in a week or two.

We have a hook on one and its low back enough that she couldn't really hit her head. She is 20 months and I expect she will stay in it until at least 2. The weight limit is 35 lbs.

However it is annoying to clean. Not awful- it just goes in the washing machine, but wiping it down would be a lot easier.

I have this one because I wanted a tray and we have it on our kitchen island.

Don't know about the low back chair part, but DS went through a phase of doing this. We realized he just wanted attention, so we ignored him when he did it, and he eventually stopped because he wasn't getting a reaction!

@Mae: is your chair padded? If it's not do you think that a padded chair might help the problem? We have the phil and ted poppy if you wanted to borrow it to try out.

@Mae: She probably could if she tried hard enough, but she's more concerned with shaking the tray part if there isn't enough food on it. She banged her head more when she was smaller and could hit the seat back, but now that she's older she doesn't do that.

@avivoca: When that is hooked to a chair, can't his head hit the chair back though? Or does it sit too far forward?

We have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Deluxe-Quick-Clean-Portable-Booster/dp/B00B9ZRZH6/ref=sr_1_10?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1429023655&sr=1-10&keywords=fisher+price+booster+seat.

I like that it hooks to our dining chairs and I can hose it off if it gets especially nasty.

ETA: It's $27 and H can't scootch our chairs back while sitting yet.

We have a somewhat traditional high chair but LO has taken to banging her head on it (on purpose) and it is driving me nuts. It doesn't seem to hurt her, but she does it so hard she scoots the chair back! I think it is a combination of her not being that into solids (STILL) and being annoyed when DH and I are talking and not paying attention to her 100% of the time at dinner. Nevertheless I would rather make her stick it out at dinner and learn that we eat dinner together than spend then entire dinner fussing over whether she is banging her head/trying to talk over it.

SO.

I want a high chair she can't bang her head on. Seems like there are a few that are similar to restaurant style, if a bit more fancy, that are ridiculously priced (like 200+) or the claw-type ones that are appealing but I worry my LO is too big for (almost a year old) and also people say they are impossible to clean for self-feeders.

Do you know of a low-backed high chair that you love? That is okay for toddlers? That isn't horrible to clean? That maybe isn't $200? thanks :)
