one of my favourite things I got was a quiche! it was easy to cut off and heat up a slice, it was fairly easy to eat one handed, and it was filling!

I ask the new mom Italian or Mexican and go from tehre. either lasgana/baked spaghetii/stuffed shells or enchilidas since all freeze well. I also send muffins too, great mommy snack.

Soup is great if frozen in individual bowls!

@MamaMoose: Some friends brought us a homemade pot pie, and it was to die for! It was a welcome break from the heavy pastas.

My other favorite thing was a huge salad that had a sesame dressing, chow mein noodles, grilled chicken, red pepper bits, etc.

A lot of well-meaning friends brought us tons of baked goods and I'm really sad to say they just got thrown out. The last thing I wanted to put in my body after having a baby was a cupcake or brownie, your body needs nutrients and of course I was concerned about losing the weight.

I would have killed someone for some steamed veggies and grilled chicken. I thought I'd never eat that way again because the thought of going to the grocery store, washing chopping and steaming the veggies was so overwhelming. I also really liked big healthy salads, another thing that is a huge PITA to make.

My mom made us muffins and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies which were great because they can be eaten one handed without having to heat them and they make great snacks during those night wake-ups.

She also made us homemade chicken parm and a dish of eggplant parm, both were great because we just scooped a portion on a plate and microwaved for a quick bite. She also brought over a few pizzas from a local shop which was good because we could eat slices one-handed and they are still yummy reheated. She made us fruit salad too and that's always a yummy snack. I avoided deli meat during the pregnancy so mom picked us up turkey, swiss, and bread for sandwiches so I couldn't get enough of those for the first few weeks.

We would have starved if my mom hadn't done all that.

Whenever one of my friend's has a baby, I always sign up to bring pulled pork. So I make that and make them a big salad with veggies in a gallon ziplock bag and a package of hawaiian sweet rolls. Super easy and yummy! I try to bring enough, so there's leftovers for lunch the next day.

I always make chicken pot pie. A little different from the many pastas most people get. And it's nice because they can either heat it up and eat it that night, or freeze it for later.

I got lots of dishes but my favorite was when someone took a whole chicken and seasoned it - added veggies and potatoes and popped in my oven after the visit - dinner was ready and I didn't have to do a thing!!! A nice change from all the casserole type dishes!

We got a bunch of lasagnas, which I guess is a pretty typical new mom meal, but I wasn't complaining. I have made Mac and cheese, which freezes well. I had a summer baby, so that made it harder, but I would love stews or soups now, especially if I could freeze it in single servings.

I also loved frozen oatmeal muffins- great to just grab and eat one handed, and it felt slightly healthier since there was oatmeal.

Do you have a go to meal that you take to families with new babies? I have made soups/chowders a few times because I figured they are easy to heat or freeze. Since I've never had a baby I'm just kind of guessing about what a new mom would want. What do you usually take or what did you love when people brought you?
