I drive a Nissan Murano and I love it. When we were searching, it was between the Murano, Acura MDX and Lexus RX350. The Murano has a ton of the features that the MDX and RX350 have, but it's significantly cheaper.

Check out TrueCar.com for pricing info. I thought it was really helpful.

@mrsjyw: as you know when we learned we were having twins we reassessed my car situation STAT as I had an Acura sedan. My Acura was paid off so we wanted something w/ the right monthly payments. Long story short we walked away w/ a brand new Limited Toyota Highlander w/ the backup camera and all sorts of bells & whistles. It's the best decision we made, I LOVE IT!!! If you have any specific questions you know how to reach me ;) xx

@krsmall: How awesome! I told my husband that our next big car will HAVE to have a rear view camera! Don't you love the panoramic sunroof? I live in california so we're able to enjoy it quite often throughout the year.

I have an Mercedes ML 350 and absolutely love it. Doesn't drive like a truck at all so great for sleeping babies. No third row seats though but we don't need it anyway. Not a fan for the price but most European cars are on the pricier side anyway and not as reliable and the cost of maintenance is high too ($299 or $499/$550) depending on type of service and that doesn't include issues that comes up. I still like it though. The trunk space is great too compared to some of the other cars I test drove in the same class

The Acura MDX was my next choice but the dealership would not budge on price for me so I left. He didn't seem to care losing my business bc it just sells that well. It's a Honda so is more reliable and it looks nice too. Maintenance is less as well.

A couple our friends with kids love the Toyota Highlander. Never test drove that one but you can't go wrong with a Toyota.

The Lexus RX 350 is really nice too. It was also on my list but I know too many people who drove that. I know, dumb reason! :P

i guess it kind of depends on your budget. i drive a chrysler pacifica, and i love it. it feels like a luxury vehicle, but it's moderately priced. so roomy and comfy! of course, they stopped making them in 2008, so you'd have to get a used one.

I still have a sedan but my next car will be a crossover. Really liking the Rav4, murano, or the CX-7.

My brother is really liking the new Ford Escapes for his family of 4. He rented a rav4 hybrid for their last trip but wasn't impressed with the gas mileage.

Sorry, I'm leaning towards foreign cars.

I would love to have a used Lexus RX350 but for the price I would have to get a 6 year old car to fit in my budget. I love the car and it's options but I'm just afraid in 5 years, I'll want another car. So my dilemma is newer car over older luxury car. I always wanted a newer car so that's what I'm leaning towards. I can have my Lexus when my kids are grown and I'm ready to retire. ;)

We have an Acura MDX and a Lexus GX470-I love them both but I wouldnt consider the Lexus to be midsized. I primarily drive the Acura; I love that the backseat is really big (so getting the infant car seat in and out isn't cumbersome) and if you don't have the third row up, you can fit an uppababy vista, a bob, 6-12 packs of diet coke, a case of water and about 15 bags of groceries. I also like that the back gate lifts up (versus the lexus, which opens out).

One thing that I dislike about my car (which is one of those things that you never appreciate until you have kids) is the fact that you can't roll down the windows with the keyless entry. With the nissans and infinitis (and probably other mfgs) you can-its such a nice luxury (especially in the south!)

We have an X5 and I really like it cause it's super roomy and has great trunk space. And my son loves it when we open up the panoramic sunroof. If I could do it all over again though, I would've bought the Highlander. My friend has it with all the options and it's pretty darn awesome. I love that she has a rearview camera (we didn't buy that option on our car).

@Mrs. Lovejoy: I had an MDX and loved it. I wish I would have kept it, Iloved the way it handled.

OP: When the transmission went out in my MDX, we decided to go for a fully loaded GMC Acadia. We like the bells and whistles and the layout (the second row is captains chairs, which is a life saver with 2 kids=no touching each other). It does handle more like a truck compared to the MDX. All in all we are pretty happy with it.

Nissan Xterra. I think it is the only car I will drive for the rest of my life. I love mine. HOWEVER, it is hard to get out of the back seat. I love it because it is sort of rugged and DH and I are mountain people. And roads get super icy around here.

We had a cadillac SRX and it was the best car we've ever had (we have had 9 cars between the two of us). It was smooth, quiet, comfortable--perfect. I'm thinking about getting another one.

We looked at the Madza cx-5 which was a lot nicer than what I expected (test drove a mazda3 awhile back and didn't care for the quality but they have really improved). But I really love the Toyota Highlander. So much. It's up there with the cadillac on my list but is more affordable with more room.
