It was much, much more a homage to early cinema than The Artist was (though many of the references were obscure, and so, missed). To be honest, I found The Artist to be kind of campy. </p> <p>I’m still surprised movies like “The Help” and “Midnight in Paris” are nominated for best picture. They are cute films, but fluffy.</p> <p>I wanted to like The Tree of Life, but it was soooo slow.
