They are super interested in everything and it's easy to carry them in an ergo/stroller and go about your day. We stayed in a condo so we had control over our food and had access to a kitchen and could walk to the beach and pool. LO seemed a little intimidated by the beach and the pool was more if a hit for her in terms of the water. We went in the summer but I think you can typically go to the beach year round. Our son was 1.5 when we went last year and the water is so warm and shallow that it was a great beach for kids. Washington DC comes to mind. I used to live there when I was in school. We visited when DS was about 9 months and it was a good destination since there is a ton of stuff to do and fairly accessible as far as strollers are concerned. Miami was also a pleasant surprise. Both were great! I think almost anywhere will be fun If you go into it with the right attitude and expectations.
