Like others suggested - freeze water soaked pads with a tuck pad on top. I used tons of tuck pads, like 3 boxes so like 120?
-stool softners, and start taking them asap after delivery
-a prescription for hemorrhoid cream if you get them. You need a prescription because the stuff you buy off the shelf doesn't contain anything to shrink them.
- nipple cream
-take extra peri bottles so you have one in every bathroom. I died if I couldn't make it upstairs where my bottle was
-advil helps with the swelling so have that on hand, it's safe after pregnancy

Dermoplast spray. You'll love it. I have had to turn to it when I got hemorrhoids a month after delivery. I also use it way after giving birth when we forget to use lube after sex and my parts are on fire after. Get that spray!!

@tillma: You can find alcohol free with hazel, but I never felt any stinging from it. For my padsicles I used aloe, witch hazel and a couple of drops of lavender....those things were so awesome. My midwife also put comfrey and other herbs in a peri bottle for me to use whenever I used the bathroom and for baths.

Wish I had some dermoplast!!! I wet some pads with witch hazel and water then freeze- excellent. Get a water bottle with a straw (hands free drinking while nursing). Tucks pads are nice too. And stool softeners! And some good nipple cream ( I have the Earth Mama stuff).

I thought the Dermoplast was great. The hospital sent me home with my opened can as well as two additional, the spray bottle, Tucks, ointment and more mesh underwear.

Dermoplast feels so good on the stitches when they are healing and itchy. Same for Tucks pads.

I've found an epsom salt bath a day has done miracles.

Also, I bought huge overnight pads based on a lot of recommendations, but they were SO big. I really like having a variety of sizes, but nothing too big.

@tillma - I used up one whole can of Dermoplast in the hospital, took one can home with me, and used it up plus two more cans I got at Walgreens. I was very generous with it. It made everything feel so much better. :)

@tillma, i used one from Mountain Rose Herbs and it is 14% alcohol. Never had issues with it. It doesn't burn. I also used tucks pads, but you can freeze witch hazel. the tucks pads are just like little cotton round things. They don't stay cold long.

@tillma: do you mean the spray? I got it and used it some- it's nice but I don't know how healing it would be. My stitches healed pretty well on their own so I was never tempted to use dermaplast on them.

Anyone go through more dermoplast than the bottle they gave you in the hospital?

What to people use for "padcicles" just plain witch hazel (some have alcohol I know...bad?) or do people prefer the tucks pads?

Anyone tried Earth Mama bottom balm? Heard good things but no one seems to be mentioning it....

I hated the mesh panties, I took a bunch home and used them to scrub my shower for like a year, lol.

I lived abroad and they don't give you anything for post partum care, and I didn't need anything, other than TUCKS and Preparation H. I don't know much about Dermoplast, but if you can get it, it might be worth a try.

Am I the only one who disliked the mesh panties? I felt like the were always falling down- but they are still very useful or the first week. I never used tucks- I bought some bf and seem to have lost it!- but I like the earth angel mama bottom spray. Have lots of nipple cream on hand and bring it to the hospital if you plan to breast feed. A few sizes of pads- the hospital will give you the gigantic ones but getting a pack of regular thin ones is good as the bleeding slows down.

And gross as it is, @Cherrybee: Is totally right about peeing in the shower! The step stool is a good idea if your bed is high. I just slept in the nursery bed for the first couple of weeks.

Also good to have on hand if you are bfing, nursing tanks and nursing pads. And some comfy pants that you feel sort of cute in- when you are leaking from every possible location having a nice comfy pair if pants is nice :)

The Tucks pads were awesome! They actually gave me those in the hospital. Same with the squirt bottle (OMG, I could not LIVE without the squirt bottle), dermoplast (though I didn't really use it), and mesh panties. Then I just took ibuprofen at home!

I wished I had more of the ice pack pads, but they wouldn't let me take them so I made my own...put witch hazel on them and froze them :)

my nurse also had a "set up" for me..when I changed my pad, I put two in a row (for coverage), laid 3 tucks pads along them, spray myself with dermaplast and go. haha. this was helpful in the first couple weeks!

I personally hated the sitz bath, but that's just me. I preferred the water bottle method.

next time, I'm not only taking the colace they give you - i don't care if i poop during delivery, I'm starting with the miralax too! that was hands down, 50x worse than labor and delivery. i cannot even describe how bad.

The step stool is an excellent idea, I could not climb into bed for several weeks post partum and my hubby had to go buy me a step stool. I also made him install a hand held shower head - it really helped me feel cleaner down there. I took home the panties and giant pads from the hospital and they were great. I would line the pads with Tucks and spray down there with Dermoplast every time I went to the bathroom. Start taking stool softeners as soon as you have your baby and don't quit ;)

It's not a product but it is a tip - I found peeing in the shower helped!! I know it's rank but the pee really stung my stitched up area...

Product wise - get the strongest pain killers you can buy just in case and get some stool softeners/laxatives.

I loved my tucks pads. If you have a target, the knock off target brand worked great. I also liked using overnight pads for a whole, and then pantyliners for a while after that. The hospital gave me mesh panties and a squirt bottle, those were lifesavers. Also, some sterile gauze was nice to have to keep my incision dry. (I pushed for three hours and it resulted in a c section, so I had to heal in both locations)

Oh, and if you have a high bed, get yourself a step stool to get in and out. That helped me not pull my incision so much.

Just thinking ahead to postpartum and would like to have some products on hand to assist in the pain relief and healing process but have heard a million different opinions on what is actually best....What recommendations do you ladies have? Specific products? Some of this stuff will have to be ordered online too since it isnt available in our area so if you have recommendations on how much you actually used too that would be helpful!
