All car seats pass the same safety standards so all are equally safe, assuming they are installed properly and fit your child. I highly recommend joining the car seat for the littles facebook page and giving them your child's stats and your budget and car. They will recommend something!

@clumsyatheart: you can also post this on the Car seats for the Littles page on Facebook- if you tell them your car and requirements they can often recommend what will work for you. And they are extremely safety conscious.

I also really recommend you make yourself comfortable with the installation yourself. I wanted that to be dh's job, but then I didn't trust that it was done well enough anyway so I read a lot and watched you tube videos (car seat lady is good). Now I can move and install my seat in any car pretty much. But it took a while for me to feel comfortable.

The safest seat is the one that's installed properly and in which baby is harnessed in properly. I'd consult a car seat tech for suggestions and installation. Babies R us and buy buy baby will let you try specific seats in your car to see how they fit.

I have a myride and my husband has a focus wagon. It stays in my van, but once in a while we put it in there. It fits, but we have to put it on passenger side because we have to move the front seat forward too much for rear facing. I'll be following this thread for other carseat ideas for it.

The safest seat is one that is properly installed, all the seats that are sold in the US are tested to the same standards, so do not think that you have to spend a ton to have your child in a safe seat.

For the money, I like Graco, but for ease of installation (using a seat belt) I like the Britax ClickTight series.

If you're nervous about installation, I highly recommend the Britax Click Tight line. It seriously could not be easier. The Advocate is top of the line and is what I chose for my LO, and you may be able to find it around $300 if you get a good sale. The Marathon, which is one step below, is also a great seat.

The Advocate fits just fine in our Honda Civic Hybrid. We still have it reclined quite a bit and in the center position -- if we moved it behind one of the front seats, we'd have to change the angle but there's plenty of room to do that (I think 7 or 9 recline positions? Can't remember offhand).

I have done quite a bit of research since my DH and I have smaller cars and we will be going with a Maxi Cosi Pria. It has great reviews and will fit in the back of my DH's Mustang comfortably and safely.

I have a diano in my 2014 ford focus. It's a bit of a squeeze but it works. And it's a very safe carseat. It doesn't work in the middle position because it blocks my visibility too much so I have it behind the passenger seat. You really have to scoot the passenger seat up so it can be a bit of a squeeze for anyone riding in that seat.

Probably passenger unless I can find someone to install it in the center. Carseat installation scares the poop out of me o_o

Do you know what position the seat will be in (center, passenger side?). We had an average sized sedan and the chicco Nextfit fit tightly behind passenger, and fine in the center seat. It seemed to take up the least space front to back (but is not narrow side to side).

Hey everyone! I'm looking to invest in a VERY safe convertible car seat for my 5 month old in a few months. My area is extremely congested and filled with horrible, dangerous drivers and I'm worried for my baby's safety. She's in an Urbini carseat now, and it makes me a bit nervous.

Can anyone recommend a convertible carseat that has amazing safety features, but fits in the back of a Ford Focus rear-facing? And is below 300? I have a lot of stipulations, I know, I'm sorry! A small car + a super safe seat = not an easy combo to find, sadly :(

I'd appreciate any advice!! Thank you in advance <3
