It's supposed to be better for teeth as well as speech development. We gave it a shot when it was time to introduce a sippy and he took right to it. It took a while for DD to learn to tip it back by herself, but now she uses it like a champ. We use the Zoli and the Playtex kind with the squeezable sides. He uses that, the Nuby strawcup and we jsut ordered Zoli cups so that he can start taking breakstmilk from a cup too. While starting solids I was giving him bits of water via a big plastic straw (sucking up the water, holding it there and putting the end in his mouth) and I noticed he was able to suck the water up pretty well when I let go so we just went for it.
