I read about the benefits of going straight from bottle to a straw cup. It's supposed to be better for teeth as well as speech development. We gave it a shot when it was time to introduce a sippy and he took right to it. It's nice b/c he didn't have to master tipping his head back to drink.

I think the Zoli is a great starter. M is breast and bottle fed. She's now on the ThinkBaby Thinkster but I reco that for older kids.

We use the Nuby cup. It took a while for DD to learn to tip it back by herself, but now she uses it like a champ. It doesn't drip when it gets knocked over on its side, which is perfect for little babies who don't know which way is rightside up!

My 9 month old is now an expert at her Zoli cup. We're not going to do sippies because she's so good at the straw cup. She's breast and bottle fed, as well.

LO never used a sippy, but figured out the straw cup pretty quickly. We use the Zoli and the Playtex kind with the squeezable sides. Now if those are dirty and we have to use a sippy, we use the Take and Toss ones.

We started with the playtex straw cup because it has a spot where you squeeze the cup to push the water into the straw - it is like a mom assist when they are first learning. He uses that, the Nuby strawcup and we jsut ordered Zoli cups so that he can start taking breakstmilk from a cup too. (the other cups leave a precious 1/4 inch of liquid in them!)

We went straight to a straw cup (Zoli). While starting solids I was giving him bits of water via a big plastic straw (sucking up the water, holding it there and putting the end in his mouth) and I noticed he was able to suck the water up pretty well when I let go so we just went for it. He's had no trouble figuring out the straw.
