@Mrs. Sketchbook: @MrsMccarthy: I had the same thoughts about getting a cup with a plastic straw... We ended up deciding this minimizes his exposure to plastic.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: YES, my mom has a tiny glass A&W mug and LO looked so cute drinking out of it and enjoyed it so I was planning to get one of those too. They sell them at camping stores as espresso mugs!

During meals, we started having DS use 8 oz stainless steel tumblers similar to this:
http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Steel-Pint-Cups-Pack/dp/B00GXUQ2QM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1394860002&sr=8-3&keywords=stainless+steel+tumbler

with a straw similar to this:
http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Steel-Straws--straws-Cleaning/dp/B00AJG5E1U/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1394859978&sr=8-13&keywords=stainless+steel+cup

Its nice because they are all dishwasher safe. Of course we have frequent spills, but by the time he turned 2 he had all but given up the straw and now just drinks out of the cup. We usually just use the Foogo for outings.

@Veggiemama: I'm thinking of getting one of those enamel covered metal coffee mugs, blue with white spots? Old school. I think LO (18 months) would think he was Mr. cool if he got to use it!

We have the foogo too and have had no big issues with it. We used it exclusively as her outside cup since she was like 7 months so the straw can get kind of dirty. I called Foogo company and found out to replace the straw and the connector only costs one dollar!! (shipping is like $3). I ordered like 5 so we can always replace that plastic part if need be.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: It is frustrating that the part they drink out of is still plastic. I think the Foogo is a good option since the straw is silicone and I like that it has a lid. My kids drink so much more out of a straw cup, I will refill their straw cups at least 2-3x a day with water and if they use their regular sippy cups they barely drink a few ounces.

My 3 year old uses a ceramic mug for his milk with meals, he has less spills than a regular glass and I like that it is sturdier (and obviously not plastic!)

@MrsMccarthy: I love the look of the pura kiki but my son never took to a sippy, only a straw! I ended up getting the foogo my rationale is, the straw is silicone, and since it is insulated the drink shouldn't get hot. Plus unless I fill it to the very top, it shouldn't interact with the plastic top.

We really like our Kleen Kanteen sippy... and have also moved on to one of these when we are having dinner so she gets used to drinking out of a "real" cup- it has a plastic lid but that can be taken off.

http://www.amazon.com/EIO-Glass-Kids-Cup-Purple/dp/B003U61EKQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1394715094&sr=8-3&keywords=toddler+glass+jar

When we are out and about for long periods, we use a camelbak... it's plastic, but durable and doesn't spill.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: the pura Kiki has a silicone spout BUT my feeling is that the liquid sitting in plastic is more harmful because it sits so long in varying temperatures. I also think it will overall cut back on the exposure. We didn't throw out all plastics at my house but we are limiting it greatly and doing what we can to keep things that sit out on hot days especially from being exposed with liquids.

Shopping for this is so frustrating! I really want to switch, but all of the ones on the market have plastic spouts. What is the purpose of the stainless cup when the part that the child interacts with is still plastic? For example klean kanteen 'a spouts are number 5 plastic, which is the same as the take and tosses we use. I wish there was a stainless straw cup with a silicone lid and a stainless straw!

@Veggiemama: Yes, I find it easy to clean. The straw/valve is very simple and a straw brush can goes the full length of the straw with no unreachable spots. And my dd can suck it dry, but ds doesn't/can't, go figure.

Thanks all, this was so helpful! I like that the Foogo has a lid, maybe we'll go with that and a KK for water when we're out. I know they will like having water bottles just like Mama!

@Mamaof2, @MerryC, @birdofafeather, @Mrs. High Heels: Is the Foogo easy to clean after you use it for milk? I typically only use our straw cups for water because I feel like milk gets in all the little crevices of a cup but I love the idea of being able to use the Foogo for milk when we're out!

We've been using the Foogo for about a year with DS (now 2) and it has been great. No leaking, and it keeps liquids really cold for a long time. We only use them for water and hand wash them which is kind of a pain but it is recommended for better performance or something, although it does say that they are dishwasher safe. I just figure, those things are expensive and I want to keep them nice!

I've used the Thermos Foogo for the 5+ years with DD1 and haven't had too many issues, except a few times when I was closing it too, too tight and it would leak. After I figured out the problem, it's been fine!

I might get a second one for DD2 now, but I also recently saw a stainless steel Camelback for kids and an InnoBaby stainless steel straw cup with a weighted ball like the Zoli, so might try one of those out of curiousity... Not sure yet, but those are other options.

I was going to suggest the Safe Sippy. My niece has been using one for over a year, and it's great-it's the only sippy cup she has. They don't use one with a straw, but I know they do make straw cups too. If she shakes it upside down, some water does come out of the spout, but that's it as far as leaking.

We use the kid kanteen sippys for water and the thermos foogo straw cup for milk. They like them both quite well.

My kids are 19 months and have no issue with the weight of either. I don't really find the cups that much heavier than plastic when full really. The KK sippy really doesn't leak unless you hold it upside down and shake it hard, and even then its only drops. Some people don't like the loop on the cap bc it can touch the kids nose, but mine don't mind it and like carrying their bottle by the loop. The foogo does leak if left on its side, out the little valve by the straw....that's really my only complaint. I really like that it keeps their milk cold while out of the fridge.

We have the Klean Kanteen sippy. It's my LO's fav sippy but he does seem to still prefer his plastic straw cups. I wish Klean Kanteen had a straw cup. I'm a huge fan of Klean Kanteen products. It is a bit heavy. He has dropped it on his foot before and it bruised his toe.

I was going to suggest the Thermos Foogo also. I haven't personally used it, but my cousin does and she likes it. I'm going to get one for DS also.
