It's very flat. Just put the pillow in the case sideways and tuck the pillowcase down inside itself. The pillow case ends up being folded in half with pillow tucked inside one of the sides. But when my 3 year old lays on them her head is at a really uncomfortable angle. She uses a very old, flat one she got from my moms house.
