Last winter I had c in the Beco gemini in a front carry, so I would wear a sweatshirt or sweater, and a fleece scarf over my chest (for warmth and spit up) then the carrier with baby, then but my puffy coat over the whole thing. It didn't zip all the way up but went about halfway, enough to cover her legs. It installs one way during pregnancy and the other way for baby-wearing later on. There are different weights of insert and four different zipper styles can be used with it. So far my strategy has been to just wrap LO in my coat and run into the store, then take off my coat and get her situated in my sling.
