I agree, probably teething. You might want to get a teething necklace so you can offer that when baby starts clamping down. They can also help an older baby stay focus on you when they start getting distrcted, etc.
I used one of these:
http://store.chewbeads.com/Jane_Teething_Necklace_p/Jane-Necklace.htm

and I had one like this too:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/215131669/all-natural-wooden-nursing-necklace?ref=shop_home_active_3

Sounds like teething. I used APNO until the pain stopped.

C used to clamp down when she was teething. Like, every time a new tooth came in she would do it for a few days, then stop. It really hurt! What worked for us was I would stop nursing that side right away when she did it. If it was the first side, I would pull her off and firmly say No! (Usually after I already yelped in pain and scared her). Wait a minute then give her the other side. If she did it again, we were done.

I noticed she did it most towards the end of a nursing session anyway, so I started watching her really carefully and as soon as she looked like she wasn't actively eating, I would switch sides or stop. It only ever lasted a few days (per tooth) then we would go back to normal for a bit.

Hope it doesn't last long. It hurts!!

My 6mo is suddenly causing me a ton of pain after a good nursing relationship up to now. Feels like he is kind of bearing down or chewing on me and re latching doesn't seem to help. We had some nursing disruptions this week that may have started it but I can't figure out how to get him to stop. A shield gets me some relief but I hate to do that long term. Any ideas???? Thank you!!

Ps no sign of teeth but you never know ...
