@GoGoSnoGirl: I noticed the same thing. One side hurts more than the other. I found switching to football hold feels better
@mfa_lady: Yes moaned/winced one time and he looked up and must have seen the pain on my face. poor baby started crying! he felt bad
@PawPrints: Yes it sucks! He really doesn't have much control over the scraping

Thanks all! Now that the one tooth is almost completely out it isn't as bad. Now he's cutting the 2nd top one. Ugh a few more days!

My DD always bites me incredibly hard when she's teething. It's the one surefire sign a tooth is on the way. I use lanolin and all purpose nipple ointment if she really does a number on then. Once the teeth come through she stops. When she got her top teeth it did take an extra few days for us both to figure out her new latch and for the teeth to stop scraping. Hang in there!

DD has two teeth completely in and four more partially in. So far, I've only been hurt when she seriously bites me, not from regular scraping. That sucks!

M has been biting down and pulling, and causing me to bleed. She's 9 months old tomorrow. She refuses to nurse still during the day, and when I tried, she bites down. She has her two bottom teeth. I try not to freak out, but we are now only nursing at night :(

When T bites, I say no (ok, I usually jump a mile high, too), unlatch him, and I cut him off for a bit....he has not been biting as much lately!

My LO got teeth early -- her first two the week before she turned four months old! -- and so we've been dealing with this a while. (She's almost 14 months and still nursing 1x per day.) I've found that if you can wait out the uncomfortable periods, they have to figure out how to work around the teeth. Their latch seems to need to change a little each time a new batch comes in, and they have to adjust. That means we have to muscle through, unfortunately. Good luck, mama!

ETA: When E actually bit me, I pulled her off and said "NO" really firmly. It only took one time for her to get the picture. (And I felt horrible because she cried her head off.)

My LO has 4 teeth so far and for some reason I felt them on one side more than when she nursed on the other side. The first week or two it was really uncomfortable but for the last several weeks it hasn't hurt unless she bites down. I didn't do anything to ease the pain and really, after she established a good latch it wasn't painful during the nursing period. I think she's working on more teeth right now but I would imagine they won't hurt as much as the middle ones top and bottom.

My son is 21 months and I can always tell when he is teething because he brutalizes my nipples! I get blisters which lead to clogged pores and ducts. His twin sister never has this issue! The only thing that I have found to help us is popping him off and re-latching deeper. Right now he is getting a front tooth so he keeps trying to nurse with a shallow latch like he's nibbling on the tip of my nipple. I also try to cut him off when he falls asleep and is just comfort nursing. I know it feels better on his gums but it's so hard on my body. Being that he is older, I feel comfortable not nursing if I'm in pain because he doesn't necessarily need my milk for nutrition. So that's another I do to help. If I get a clogged duct from his teething nursing I make his twin sister nurse it out, since I don't have this problem with her!

ETA - my pain is alleviated as soon as his tooth pops through and he automatically goes back to his old latch. I do pop the blisters I get and clear any clogged pores ASAP to try to avoid clogged ducts (which I am prone to). Other than that I use lanolin and just know it will get better soon.

DS has 6 teeth at 10.5 months old. We are still breastfeeding. I can always tell when he is working on new teeth, because I can feel his existing teeth more, and he will often scrape at my nipples. Also, he seems to want to BF more for comfort, so I end up with teeth marks and slight abrasions. Not comfortable. I don't usually put anything on them, but will go shirtless sometimes (around the house in the evening).

ETA: I don't normally feel the teeth when he is not teething, but I can tell they are there, if that makes sense.

Baby has had his 2 bottom teeth for a couple of months and hasn't bothered/hurt me. But his top 2 teeth are coming in and I'm getting bruised and cut.
What have you used to help relieve the pain?
Do you get used to it or does it subside after teeth come in completely?
