The "rule" is 300mg a day b/c it does pass through.. P was intolerant to coffee bean though so I cut it for the majority of the first year! Now what I'll usually do is make a cup but split it for iced coffee through the day. P never had any reactions to being more wakeful or having trouble sleeping though, I just limit it so she isn't exposed to alot of caffeine as a growing bub.

I have a cup of coffee every morning and sometimes another caffeinated beverage in the afternoon. My kid is not affected by anything I eat or drink so far, so I'll probably end up having more caffeine once I go back to work :P

I've become pretty lax about it now that my son is 8 months. I have my very large thermos of coffee in the morning and then occasionally have afternoon coffee or tea or soda. It has never seemed to affect him.

My pediatrician said not to limit yourself until you see an effect in baby. LMW has never had any problems falling asleep drinking her bottle... or staying asleep...!! So I actually have 2 cups in the morning (after I pump, about 6 hours before I pump again) and several diet sodas through the day. Sometimes I'll have another cup when I get home around 5 (5 hours before I pump again).

@regberadaisy: haha, well, I normally just drink one cup of half-decaf in the morning, and then I might have a soda or iced tea later in the day. So I'll just switch my one cup of half-decaf to one cup of full-caffiene, and I assume he'll be okay. Though maybe I'll wait to try it on the weekend. I'd hate to send him to daycare with fully caffeinated BM and then find out he was totally strung out there!

I had a cup a day throughout pregnancy, usually I'll have a cup, but won't hesitate for a second cup later in the day if I need it :) And DS is a sleeper :) has been STTN since 12 weeks.

@Adira: bahahah but it depends on your baby too! If LO has been used to one cup of decaf I wouldn't drastically increase it to say 3 cups of regular in one day either! That could be a drastic shock to their system! haha :)

@Adira: Ok, it's been a while since I looked, so I wasn't 100% accurate. BUT, you can have up to 2-3 cups a day without it affecting your baby.

@BabyBoecksMom: Oh really?? One of the LCs at my hospital told me that if I drank caffeine, I might notice Xander being more awake because of it. I haven't noticed anything like that yet though, but I also don't drink a ton of it.

I cut it all out during pregnancy so I think due to that she was a little sensitive. The first time I tried a cup after she was born she was a bear at night time. Didn't know if it was a coincidence but I didn't want to risk it. Finally during the insane 4 month regression I could not survive so I slowly reintroduced decaf. So now I have a morning cup of decaf. She's a bit older now so I'll occasionally have a afternoon cup of decaf when I need it.

I love my coffee too, but around one month I noticed that it was potentially affecting A. Either that or he had a crappy few days and it just coincided with the days when I had afternoon caffeine.

I switched to decaf, but now at 10 weeks and working back to half-caf. I figure after 3 months they can metabolize caffeine better so I'll probably go back to 1 or 2 cups of regular per day.

I drink a 16-ounce travel cup every morning. If I go to Starbucks, I get a grande instead of my usual venti. I try not to have a second cup (and usually don't need it) but if I do, I know it's fine because it's not all the time. Sometimes too I'll have a couple of glasses of iced tea when we're out to eat, or a diet coke for lunch or something. I don't really track it too closely, especially because he doesn't seem to suffer any ill effects (he sleeps fine, I mean, he sleeps like he sleeps... and he's not cranky or having intestinal upset, etc.).

I'm a little paranoid about the caffeine, but I have a medium half-decaf coffee from Dunkin's every morning. Then I have soda or iced tea during the day. I think I usually have around 200mg a day, same as when I was pregnant.

I've never limited my caffeine intake, but until recently, I didn't have caffeine every day. So, if some days I had two (or more...) cokes/coffees it didn't bother me, and I just made sure to chug extra water. But, LO has never been sensitive to caffeine.

I am a true coffee lover but I have been holding back and only having one small cup in the morning because I am BFing. But I'm very tempted to have a second cup in the afternoon when I start to feel sluggish. How much coffee/ caffeine do you have in a day?
