@GoGoSnoGirl: Thanks, yeah-these HPT gave me lots of apprehension. The last batch of wondfo strips was terrible, it would showed faint positives or sometimes negative altogether. If I remember correctly, with my first, the wondfo strips showed both lines appearing at the same time, whereas the ones I'm using now would really take 3-5 minutes to show up. Yep, I have learned to be more relaxed on the results, I actually have to calm DH down when he thinks the line is fainter. You're right about the online charts, the numbers vary greatly. I should just look at the pattern of my numbers. Thank you!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I'm sure it's a work in progress to feeling better. lots of hugs for you, but you probably don't need it with all those extra baby snuggles you're getting!
Wow! that's crazy how the test strips and the beta differ significantly. I just called the clinic after I read your response. For some reason, I was still kind of hesitant. So far, just talked to the secretary/nurse(?) and waiting to hear back from the doctor. I will ask for a blood test on Monday (if they aren't closed for Columbus day) and then will probably repeat for Wed and Friday of next week.

@Snowybreeze: oh goodness, thank you. It means a lot -- I still struggle a bit and it's always nice to hear someone thinks you're doing a good job!

HPTs are analog, meaning they give you a yes or a no answer. They can't tell you "how" pregnant you are. A blood test is quantitative, so you'll get a number which your doctor will want to see double every 48 hours. That's a true indication of a progressing pregnancy, not a line darkness on a home test!

To put this into prescriptive:

When I was pregnat with Chloe, I got a positive test at 12dpo with a dark line. My beta the next morning was an 11.

With Charlotte, I got a very fainting on 10dpo and my beta that morning was 13.7. By the time my line darkened to the same darkness as my 12dpo with Chloe, my beta was over 1,000.

It varies and isn't a very good indication of how well a pregnancy is going!

@Snowybreeze: HPTs vary a lot, both within the same brand/lot & definitely across brands, as well as depending on time of day you test & your hydration, etc. As for blood tests, you can get a beta at any time (until around the time you can start getting ultrasound, anyway, because around that time your hcg levels plateau/decline), but the point is more to get them on a fairly regular basis so that you can see the doubling trend continue. My dr recommended every 2-3 days. And, referring back to your question from a couple of days ago, the hcg charts that are available online or from your test results have really wide ranges. It is only moderately helpful to try & correlate your beta # to how far along you are. If you know when you ovulated or your LMP, that is better for dating & I'd recommend only following your beta trends for keeping an eye on the progression of your pregnancy (not how far along you are) until you can start getting ultrasound. Hope this helps. :goodluck:

@Brownie: ah, so you were saying the lightness of the lines from the test strips might not be a good indication.
The concentration of the urine plays a big role too, when I went to the clinic for a urine test, i had drank too much water and my urine was basically clear. I told the nurse "I don't think you'll get a positive with that urine" she goes "no worries, it will pick it up if you are pregnant". she peeks in later and said "oh honey, it's negative". Blood test on the same day gave a positive of two weeks.

@Snowybreeze: yes my tests were lighter and my hcg doubled. At 12 days past it was 47 and at 14 days past (the true date I should have had a first beta) it was just over 100 which is what they wanted to see. I was convinced by the pee tests that it would be lower.

@Mtex14: Thank you! Congratulations to you! Are you due in Feb? Would it be too late to get a hcg level test after my missed period?

@Mrs. Microscope: Thank you for the reassurance. How are you holding up?

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I follow your posts and am inspired by your determination and how you handle your emotions. Omg, those newborn photos of baby Charlotte is so cute! I hope you are feeling better now (I read the postpartum anxiety post). I think I went through a very slight case of baby blues with my first, and it already took me a lot to admit that I was not happy. You're doing such a great job.
Today I'm pregnant =) yay!

@Snowybreeze: I'm sorry you're feeling so anxious! I had three early losses, and am currently snuggling my sleeping 5 week old.

Try to relax (easier said than done!) and remember that today, you are pregnant!!

There is nothing worse than that feeling! I had a cp in March and got pregnant in May and I am 6 months right now! With my first pregnancy my hcg was very low and when I got pregnant the second time my hcg was much higher. I kept having that feeling of waiting for something bad to happen, but its not good to stress ( something i am still learning!)

Good Luck!!

I had two cp last year. The second on I had the daily preg test that got lighter the morning of my beta. This year I obsessively peed on a stick. First beta was two days early because I wanted the pregnancy documented if I lost it. It was good then two days later and lighter wondfo and frer and my hcg had doubled. Now at almost 14 weeks.

So I understand the worry and stressed the whole time. But apparently, we just have to wait for the numbers.

@Snowybreeze: never had a chemical but be careful with cheap tests as the lines you get from them can be very variable, i think the dye can vary quite a bit. Good luck!

@GoGoSnoGirl: Thanks for stopping by! I just posted @Jess1483's thread as well. You're right, the blood test would give me some quantitative numbers to work with. When I had blood work done on 7/10 the HCG level was 42 I think. Now I am not really familiar with the DPO and HCG level chart, how does that work?
Also, the nurse just called me up and said that i'm about 2 weeks along, it was passed by period (7/8), shouldn't it be measuring at 4 weeks? or blood tests don't count the first two weeks?

@Snowybreeze: yep, you definitely are not alone, & it IS scary. But it is also exciting & worth celebrating each day that you are pregnant. :-) I'll post to @Jess1483: 's thread later, but I just wanted to come on here & say congrats & that while your hpt's are reassuring to you, you might see if your Dr will do blood tests (beta hcg), as they are quantitative, not just qualitative and it would be even more telling to get numbers that you can watch double than to try & eyeball your home tests which can vary a lot. Just a thought. :goodluck:

@Jess1483: Thank you! Congratulations to you too! I am constantly reminding myself that there's hope and that I should use this time to embrace the happy news. Haha I have about 4 more wondfo strips and 3 more FRERs. I'm testing it per day as a way to keep a log for subsequent pregnancies if any.

I just read your intro in your thread, and oh my goodness not only are almost due date twins this time around, but I have a 22 month DD while you have a 22 month DS! very cool.

Best of luck to us!

I'm so sorry you're feeling anxious. I had a loss at 8 weeks in August and just got my BFP at 10dpo Sunday (almost due date twins!) I'm also anxious and would totally be testing repeatedly if I had wondfos or extra FRERs. Luckily, I'm out, so I can't overanalyze all the lines. Maybe hide them from yourself and try not to test more than every 2 days or so? I'm trying to follow the mantra "every pregnancy deserves hope." Today you are pregnant!

And congratulations!

I am completely stressed out and paranoid here! I had a early m/c in July. Some stuff I have read says that most women won't even know if they have had a chemical pregnancy, which wasn't true for me. I got a BFP on 7/9, blood test confirmed pregnancy on 7/10 and bleeding on 7/12. The tissues/blood clot was much more defined than a regular period. By that I mean I saw things I usually don't see during a regular period. Trying to keep the TMI down =). Fast forward to the present, I got a BFP on 10/5 which is 11 DPO and I continue to test each day. Whenever I "think" the line is fainter than the previous day i am so stressed out. I am using both the wondfo strips and first response, both have showed a positive at this point. To double confirm i'm not seeing things, I had my hubby test his urine too (whoohoo one line) this way I am sure there's no evaporation line thing playing jokes on me. Anyways, my period is due on 10/11, and I'm scared to death that i'll start bleeding then or a few days after. Has anyone have experience with pregnancy after a very early m/c? Any input is appreciated!
